Coloured Comp STs... What years?
« on: November 01, 2016, 02:46 PM »
Okay so I've seen black red and blues used in 84 but what about white ? 84 or 85 ( neil ruffell definitely had them on his streetbeats in 85 I know for sure ! )

We're green, pink, orange , lavender 85 or 86 ?
I'm pretty sure these were not around in 84 ?

Cheers "again" lads, Ant

I always have my hunches but like fir you guys to confirm them for me  fistblump explosion

Craig Campbell was running white ones in 85 too. I would have said the white and the mad colours came at the same time, the case was certainly the same with the Haro tyres. In the CC bike test you can see CC has blue on his bike and his team mate (Nick Jeffries I think) has lavender on his bike...  :daumenhoch:

I think the answer is probably yes to 84-85 too.

We know the labels help age the tyres:

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,170279.msg1708981.html#msg1708981

and recently ther've been blue stadiums on the museum (I'd definitely have grabbed these if funds were freer flowing at the moment):

http://bmxmuseum.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=711569

Which would put blue being available at some time between 80-83

and there are usually plenty of orange, pink, and lavender around eBay with 84 - 86 labelling on them:

Pink:

orange:

Lavender:

oh, and green on museum (seen better days though - and I'm sure I've seen green stadiums too, which would put them at 83 at least):

So I'd buy the colour you want with the 84-86 labelling on and challenge anyone to prove they weren't out in 84-85 verses 86 some 30 years later   ;). Though I suppose the only absolute way would be a massive trawl through all the 84-85 mags, and sorry I can't help out on that front I'm afraid.

Good luck, be interesting to see what some others may think.

I found this Tioga advert in May 1985 Freestylin' - first time I'd seen Lavender advertised, and then an article in the July 1985 edition of Freestylin' - describing all the funky colours. Found em this morning investing when the funky colour Z rims came out (exactly same time) Hope this helps you out Ant....

Thanks for all your help lads .. Top work Radsters  :4_17_5:

I think blue were definitely around earlier as the Skeay lads had them late 83 onwards I'm pretty sure.
Curb dogs ran blue, black and red for sure in 84

I've seen adverts for panaracer freestyle tyres in white 85 onwards ...
I'm having fun scouring my 60 odd magazines but not found white comp STs in 84 only 85 also.

The labels start in 84 ( blue/green ) but that doesn't mean that whites were around then!

They always seem to be 2.125s for sale don't they! ... Never 1.75s
Some black sold on FB this week ( they weren't listed with size but I'm guessing they were 2.125s )
I'll keep researching lads  :daumenhoch:

The white were out pretty early on.  I remember having a white set in summer of 84.
The first of the Rad colours out were Lavender I recall them early 85.
