REDLINE PROLINE 11 ADVICE
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:04 AM »
I have just uncovered my old Redline Proline 11 from the loft and plan to restore it to its former glory.
I am deciding whether to get it rechromed as it was originally or to get it powdercoated white...Any advice on which looks best?

Can anyone recommend anywhere in the north east to get the work done? and where best to get the original stickers from.

Many Thanks In Advance....

Rich

Ps i will post some pics shortly before i begin work on it..

Or you could sell me the forks!!!

LOL. My one is chrome and a bit shot, I think a re chrome is the answer but it will wait until I get the forks, why not build it anyway and then see how you feel

I think i will rechrome it..its just the white ones look pretty cool too. The frame number starts with RB think thats 1982.
The forks are the propper Redline ones that i got with the bike. I noticed when i stripped it down the forks are actually stamped with Redline at the bottom of the shaft that goes into the stem.
Could you tell me how much these f & f are worth.
Cheers

Mine was £150 frame and forks, but the forks are tired and show stress cracks on the drop out, the same place i snapped my originals in 83, so I am a bit nervous about using them. Chrome is the best, but white is a close second. heres my one, I have changed a few bits since this pic, its got 185 flites on it now.

and heres the pic when I bought it

No the forks are from alans, copy LGs, but with them on I can ride it without worries, although they change the geometery a lot and cause me to crash......

Jim wise is building a PL20 at the moment, he posted a few pics recently..might be worth a look.
One question, why was you riding a PL20 at 10 years old, it must have been huge..

I was just thinking the same thing , a PL20 at 10 years old would have been big !  :D

No i was quite the opposite, i was very small!!!
We bought it already built up to race, my previous was a Puch Murray that weighed a ton.
The dealer a guy who used to run Teeside BMX club built it as follows..
Araya Rims, with the other gear i mentioned earlier...but it had Robinson mini bars on it...remember them.. no top tube!! they eventually snapped. Now it has alloy CW mediums on it.
I raced it for one season just locally in the NE, it was a bit big so i got a mini MP Redline.. which was a different thing all together with araya skinny sew ups on it (panaracer tyres) uni mini seat and mini CW bars...light as a feather.. i still have it in the loft. Is anyone still interested in these mini racers or are they not worth much?

They are quite collectable, but a lot of people wont be interested cos they cant ride them, there are a few hardcore collectors on here who would be interested, but I think ebay will get you the best price, but advertise it on here as well...

Slow down young man ;)  How bad is the chrome on the bike & what do the decals look like, are they still on the bike?

The reason I ask: you can not get the correct decals from any dealer, including BMXStop. Unless anyone one on here knows of any repos that have been knocked up on the side ???

Post a pic, I'll help if I can ;)

Bren.

I bought it from a guy in the states, it was already powder coated. It is a very good job.

I've been looking for one for ages (sort of) when I saw Bren's at MK it clinched the deal I HAD to have one.

Typically after getting one shipped in from the states, you have yours for sale and there is also one on Ebay. Nevermind.

I'm VERY happy with it. just gotta wait for my bars and stem to arrive and my flights to come back from the chromers.

Should all be done by the end of the month. and i cannae fooking wait!

Jim
The decals on my Proline II are original, but no one seems to do correct repos... i will send you pics,
the originals have Proline II on one of the stripes of the main frame sticker. Whereas the best repos i can find look the same but have carrera in the place of proline II

The set on my PL20 are from BMX stop, and are designed wrong, they don't look to bad, but only work on white frames. They are only being used until I find the correct set for the 84 model year.

I think I have a nos set of PL20 81-82 decals in the loft ( not for sale :yahoo_silent:), I'll have a look later.

If you can find a pic of the correct set I can do the artwork and possibly get them printed.
