Ok, so with the endless amount of race and freestyle framesets that have been designed over 40 odd years, what are those features that you love?

For me:

The rear end of the top tube on the GT Pro, and then later the slanted cut with the stamped 4130 that also appeared on Performers.

The rear triangle on Robinson's where they look like they would be a loopy, but actually have agap between the 2 tubes.

Skyway Streetbeat frames in general.

The etched Hutch brake bridge's.

Welds on Rippers.

They're just the ones I can remember for now.

For me it's the triangular box above the rear stays and brake bridge on mk1 and Mk2 Geese. Love it..... reminds me of really early bmx's when I was a lad and looks like they were knocked together in a garden shed out of stuff lying about in the 70's

The brazing on MRD's is awesome as well

Bottema forks and Landing Gear forks are instantly recognisable too

Yeah, obviously the Quad is an amazing design, but I'm not looking for a 'top of the pops', it's more of a looking for particular detail that people like. You may not even particularly like the bike.

Platforms, wishbones, headtube & down/toptube gussets, oval tubing & snake chain/seatstays do it for me

The R stamped gusset on a Pro Burner. Awesome

Kuwahara Exhibitionist frames with the twin top tubes, and twin oval down tubes, along with Kuwahara stamped brake bridge. Superfluous

The front end of a VDC changa. Not to everyones taste obviously, and to some it looks like a load of scaffolding welded together, but i love it. The seat back end on a skyway T/A where the chain/seat stays join the dropouts is a work of art, as is the T/A seat tube where the teardrop tubing blends into round tubing to accomodate the seat

Exactly Andy, a bit like Babe of the Day, what one may find beautiful, another may find fugly. I'm not into the VDC design myself, it's interesting, but does nowt for me. The TA dropouts as mentioned though are indeed a work of art.

Was it the s&m tiki headtube with the bottle opener? Genius 😊

The details on the pre 85 loopy ripper are nice. From the rear dropouts to the plate covering the top of the seat stays, to the subtle gusset. Beautifully done

For me it was always pierced tubing bitd. Always loved GT's and Jmc's down the local track for just that reason, then the king of all (and as already said, I appreciate this is an acquired taste) VDC, loved the Changa and Monkey bars as a kid, probably the bike i drooled over most back then (mind you there was also ripper's & quad's, ripper tubing and welds, quad frame design, oh and LG's

).

Nowadays, VDC Freestyle/Trix/Powerlite freestyle/Freeagent Freestyle forks, love the peg design. Then vintage wise it would be the whole goose 1 frame design.

For me its the rear standers on an RL20ii with the coaster tab fixed on the inside, and the tapered front forks with the potts mod tabs welded on. Quality engineering and design.

I think most of mine have already been mentioned:-

Race Inc and SE welding - a work of art!
Brazing (though I appreciate it now much more than bitd;
VDC headtubes - beautifully bonkers!
Looptails - have never had one but it's the next frame on my hit list!

Just thought of a couple more:-

the gusset on a Thruster Vanishing Point!

I love the GHP too. The bend/join where the seat stays meet the seat/top tube look amazing.
The square chainstays on the gjs freestyler look great. I'm probably in the minority, but i have no love for the gjs big tube. The forks and dropouts just don't look right to me. Each to their own though-that's what's great. We all like different stuff
