9" vs 8.5" bars ?
« on: November 03, 2017, 08:36 PM »
Hi all.

I am looking at some chrome Bone Deth Deadman bars (for park and street riding) I have found a 8.5" rise set at £85 and a 9" rise set at £67...do you think I will notice the 0.5" difference, or just go for the cheaper set? (I am running a front load stem.)

Cheers!
Rich.

If you have ever rode early Haro Kneesavers then go for the 8.5 Deadmans ... almost identical sweep & rise.

I had a pair until I got the new versions of the Hoffman Low Drags ... but the Deadmans were lovely

This is going to be my most modern ride since my 1983 Mongoose, so I haven't ever ridden Haro Kneesavers

As Chris says then .. you will get used to either ... best new school bars around IMO ... other than my Low Drags which just suit my bike lovely.

dont forget your stem choice can also effect the height. (same as spacers etc if it is possible)

When I had a topload S&M xlt stem I was looking at needing about 7.5 bars
but when I went to the redneck it was the same height using 8.25 bars.

Thanks Drawn,

Yeah I was thinking about the stem situation, I have a Total front loader stem...I guess as this will be my first new school bike that it will be a case of trying it and seeing how it feels.

Cheers!

if you have room on the forks, start with the stem low down,  ie on top of the headset, spacers on top of the stem ,   ride it for a bit see how it feels,  then swap the spacers one at a time, (depending on the thickness) to below the stem if you want the bars higher or to get the feel right ,  :daumenhoch:

as it's your first ns bike , and i assume you know,  but just incase, spacers should be about 1-2mm higher than the top of the forks to allow the compression bolt to work correctly :daumenhoch:
