On the scrounge! - complete

Well I've managed to get it sorted, although I had a couple of technical hitches along the way.

The axle and the bearings appeared to be fooked, whoever fitted the cranks hadn't centred the axle when fitting and it was right over to the crank side as far as it could go, so the crank came off and in doing so seems to have damaged the threads as it is damaging the threads on the bolt now.

I had a look at the threads on the axle and couldn't see any damage just rust so after watching a couple of how to's on You Tube I decided to have a go fixing the axle, I used the spare bolt to clean the threads and it worked.

Big thanks to FUGAZI came up with an axle, bearings, spcaers etc and was ready and willing to pop them in the post and to ED209 for offering to have a look the lad was able to come up with some himself.

Installed new bearings and axle and fitted cranks and new Salt 25t sprocket.

The bars were well bent, I had some off a WTP Thrillseeker I bought a while back I've no plans to use so wacked them on instead.

The chain was fooked so I had a bit of a rummage and found a suitable replacement.

The front tyre was a POS so swapped it for the Schwalbe Crazy Bob which is a decent enough tyre.

Couldn't get the clear grips to stop moving so swapped them.

Made a cover out of the ground sheet from an old tent.

What I started with.

Think I've possibly got my BMX mojo back.

Some of you are maybe wondering WTF this thread is about because possibly you didn't see the wanted ad "On the scrounge"

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,188076.0.html

This bike belongs to a neighbours lad, same one I built another bike for a few years ago, handed it over today (obviously no pics due to child protection) to see his face and his gratitude made it worth the few quid and the bit of effort it cost me and hopefully it'll keep him BMXing.

PS he's no shed hence the cover.
