New to site and bmx riding

Hi all

Just thought I would say a hello ..

New to the site and new to the world of BMX's

I have been looking for a hobby that I can do with my son and a hobby that forces me to do some exercise also something that gives a buzz I used to do loads of motorbike track days had all the clobber track bike kept fit as part of it but when my son was born the £500 a day was to expensive .. Now my son is 5 he is into bike riding after watching a BMX flatland show he thinks he can do these stunts on his 12" wheel "cheeky monkey" halfords bike the results have ended in tiers.

My idea is to get into this and help my boy along the way ..

I would do a bit of research and buy yourself a top-spec newschool bike off ebay or your local web and ride it with your boy. Spend the rest of the money you would have spent on an oldschool bike on a really good bike for him that is designed for 5yr olds like like an Early Rider Belter or Isla CNOC14 or 16 and you will see him take to riding like a duck to water. You will spend all your time riding and no time fixing the bits that fall off an oldschool bike 

I only spent £200 on an absolutely immaculate £700 top of the range WeThePeople Zodiac and more than that on both of the above bikes for my kids (£250 each!). I don't regret a single penny i spent on their bikes when i see them tearing along with twice the speed and ten times the confidence of their school friends on heavy, poor quality bikes and the second-hand value when i need to sell them means i will get at least half of the money back ready for their next bikes

I will have a look around at the good second hand bikes ... plan is to buy something for a "every day" use leaning bike for me and take on a project to tinker with in the garage ...

I have a small collection of early 90's motorbikes (2 stroke) which I have restored so no problems dealing with the mechanical side of things ..

My son currently has stunt pegs on his "cheeky Monkey" Halfords bike he is just turning 5 and is small for his age ... he loves it most his friends still have stabilisers he is riding around on the back stunt pegs .. Spen69 thanks for your advice I will have a look those bikes ...

I am looking at a Haro 300.2 for me seems a good bike for starting out has anyone had any experience of this bike ??

I agree 100% Chez! I'm a member only since April, had loads of fun and gained a lot of knowledge in that short period of time.

I am looking at a Haro 300.2 for me seems a good bike for starting out has anyone had any experience of this bike ??
