Araya rims question
« on: June 25, 2016, 11:53 PM »
Hi everybody!

I have some questions regarding Araya 7x-rims (hoops). Are they made of aluminium or steel? Is the chrome finish on 7x's galvanised?
What is the difference between Araya 7x and Araya Super 7x, is there a difference in quality, weight or maybe just a difference in the year of production?
Many thanks in advance  :daumenhoch:

Andy

I think they're alloy, which is a aluminium/steel mix.

Super 7x rims are completely different looking to 7x rims.

Super 7's are mid school, but I no idea on years they were made.

Araya also made 48 hole 7x which looked the same as 36 hole 7x  :daumenhoch:

Thanks for the info and the picture! Mid school is precise enough, regarding the years of production.  :daumenhoch:

I got my super 7x's in mid 1996, just prior to that year's "king of concrete"

Thanks so far!  :coolsmiley: I think Dan is right, that 7x's are made of alloy. At least they are offered as Alloy-Rims in various sales.

So the main question I have now is, does anybody know something about the chrome-finish? Do they get that "mirror"- chrome finish by a process of polishing, galvanisation or maybe anodising? I'm not an expert on metal refining, so please excuse me in case this seems like a strange question.

Thanks in advance for all further and helpful replies!  :daumenhoch:

My Super7's are chromed, I know that coz they are peeling like fook  :daumenhoch:

As an alternative to a re-chrome (if that's what you need) I have seen them mirror polished and then clear anodised.

Nice one, thanks a lot!  :daumenhoch: My 7x's have some tiny bubbles ( after nearly 30 years of using 'em), and I try to get an idea about what to do if they start peeling aswell.
Do you have any experience what will endure longer?

Andy

No idea what would last longer Andy, but I would guess a re-chrome would be a little more expensive than the polish/anodise route  :-\

I thank you anyway  :daumenhoch: A re-chrome or the polish/anodise version may be less expensive than buying new-old ones. Lucky me if I'm wrong about that.
Maybe somone else has experince what would last longer.?.
