PK Ripper Decals question....
« on: June 12, 2016, 06:34 PM »
A question for you SE bikes and PK Ripper nuts .....

I have just purchased a 26 inch PK Ripper,but I don't like the decals.

I will be having some made up in the bigger size to fit the bigger frame but have a question.

Are the down tube decals on the 80s Rippers in the rub on style like the Landing Gear fork decals?

Or are they printed on clear like most decals are?

Same goes obviously for the seat tube and head tube decals.

Cheers,Ripper fans  :daumenhoch:

bars first, now decals!! what next will you pick holes in??

get floval flyer decals made for it, it looks like an 80's floval more than anything...

can't help with anything useful though, sorry Olly....

Nope,it's a Ripper because of the gusset,it can never be a floval lol.

I am trying to like the decals because I don't really want to strip them off,but build OCD is getting the better of me.

Bars and MX900 are on now though along with some black Mushrooms  :daumenhoch:

Can't help you with the 26" decals as its not my era.
As for the decals on let's say pre 85 frames there are a few different versions.
First up the fat shadow slightly different font 79 decal which was in both solid decal for both sides and split (separate one each side) these were usually placed high up the frame.
Solid no shadow decal in sheet form and rub on,
Standard decal which you see on pretty much all refinished PK's and was standard from late 80 onwards was sheet form.
Short period split decals from late 79 to early 80 on some but not all bikes, agar usually placed high up the down tube.

Not sure if any of this dribble helps your cause  :LolLolLolLol:

Solid.
Depends which colour the frame was, most colours had both shadow and non shadow decals but the more popular were shadow.

Cheers for the info Ash.
I only ask as I am sure back in the 80s I saw Rippers with rub on Decals on the downtube, and wondered if this was the norm.
Now I am confused and not sure what to go for lol....

i wouldn't be over concerned mate if it's not original finish. If your replacing decals on an original finish frame then genuine decals for me.
