Helmet Advice Thread
«

Last weekends sad news has prompted many of us to start looking getting a helmet. I'm already sorted with a full face, but what about open face or the park/skate style helmets? There are loads about and they probably all meet the required standards but which ones do those that already have them recommend?

I highly recommend a Bell Faction, or Bell Segment helmet

Good thread Julian
I have already purchased mine for the rides .. I don't care how daft or stupid i look. Orders off my missus.
No helmet, no ride.
The ones i were looking at ranged for £20 -£50
I went for this bern after 1 1/2 hours reading reviews last night . I quite liked the peak too .

You won't go wrong with anything from Pro-tec, TSG, Bell or King Kong, I use King Kongs, V3's I think they are

After seeing this post I popped out on my bike on my dinner and picked one of these Mongoose helmets up. £20 from Halfords:
There are probably cheaper & better helmets out there but I wanted one today. It fits a treat. Other helmets I've tried dig in round the side. I must have a funny shaped head!
It feels really sturdy. Better than others I've tried. I've got somewhere to put my ride stickers now too.
Here is the link if anyone wants a look:
http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-helmets/adult-bike-helmets/mongoose-urban-helmet
They do them in white too.

You could always go for a more subtle form of protection with something like this ...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Delta-Plus-Venitex-Air-Coltan-Safety-Baseball-Bump-Cap-Hard-Hat-Safety-Helmet-/111133798351?var=&hash=item19e0172fcf:m:m_Vn2IJ324yhOa_itNRPq8g
obviously not as good as a helmet but may appeal more to some people

got a tsg dawn, amongst a few other tsg's, nice lid , comfy, and more importantly fits really well, plus i think it still the only full cut that's tested and approved for bmx use ? i use a 661 full face for track, sadly not a carbon one , but it has done its job up to now when the inevitable happens , also the fit is really nice on the 661's
tried lots of different piss pot lids over the years and found that tsg's just fit on me odd shaped nut the best, there's nothing worse than trying to ride with a badly fitting helmet
old saying and sadly more piognant in light of recent events , is "how much do you think your head is worth?" there is a reason why cheap helmets are cheap ,
