Next project - Silver Streak
« on: May 28, 2016, 08:33 AM »
So I picked this up recently and going to give it a sympathetic resto which means only replacing or adding necessary bits.....even going to keep with the rusty original spokes.  :daumenhoch:

It's pretty much original apart from the rear tyre and only requires minor work.

I need to replace the rear inner DC cable as it's shot, add a pinch bolt/washer and nut, source a pedal dustcap and replace all the cage screws as most are damaged and one is missing. Although the cages are bent, they are staying that way and although the grips are not great their condition add to the bikes history.

If you have anything in your boxes of spares, please let me know.  :daumenhoch:

Yeah, a lovely bike and props for going down the sympathetic resto route. :daumenhoch:

Am I right in thinking these frames are tri-moly? & what year is this one?

Yep Tri-moly, it's an '83  :daumenhoch:

Few more things went back on the last few days but keeping to my quest of only replacing/fixing what is necessary :)

Thanks for the confirmation. I've recently seen an '82 one for sale but am ideally after a full chromoly frame. In any case, am looking forward to seeing this one when you're done. :daumenhoch:

All done  :)

All I've replaced are the pedal cage allen screws, DC inner cable, inner tubes and rear tyre (didn't like the all black one). Everything else is original spec/stock survivor but added the original pad-set.

Superb Mark!

Tis a fine looking bike for sure, probably the closest to spec I have seen!
