Geoff Haslam Welding - Warrington
« on: March 17, 2016, 09:55 PM »
As many of you know, I sent my VDC Changa back to it's maker Voris Dixon for him to replace the seat tube which had rotted from the inside out. Once I got the frame back, I needed to find a welder in the UK who could sort out the finer details. The frame needed some work to sort out some major pitting to the top/downtubes. The dropouts were a bit chewed and needed building up, and the cable guide needed building up and shaping. I did a bit of research and found a welder who came recommended on pistonheads and a few motorbike forums. Fortunately, he was only 20 minutes from me in Warrington.

Here are a few photos

Geoff's work was excellent, and he sorted it out in less than 2 weeks. Since then he's fixed my Falcon Pro Beta forks that had a crack in the dropout blade, and today I picked up a set of Bullseye 2nd gen (phase 1) cranks that he sorted for me. The non drive side end of the spindle was hollow, which got me a bit twitched as the crank arm could migrate off whilst riding on it. Geoff filled in the end of the spindle and got it tapped to fit a 1/4 inch bolt, so that an end cap/washer can be fitted. He's also fixed Ant's (factory pilot) Quadangle that had a crack to the seat tube from an incorrectly fitted seat clamp. He also recently tidied up my GJS Freestyler than had some dings to the seat & chain stays. Got my frame back within 2 weeks.

I was a bit cautious about singing Geoff's praises too much as I didn't know how much work he had on, so didn't want him troubled too much. I picked up my crank today and he said that I should feel free to advertise his services to the fine folk of  :radbmxsmilie:. He is well known in the classic car/motorbike scene, and no job is too small. He is happy to receive items via post or in person.  One of his specialist areas is welding alloy/aluminium, so don't believe all the stories you hear about alloy frames being unrepairable. His service, communication and prices are spot on (VDC £60, seat tube repair £20, Crank arm filling, welding & tapping £40). He's a great guy to deal with, and I can't sing his praises enough. I wouldn't take my bikes anywhere else now (Phil Sawzall and Steve Animal aside of course!). Anyone who knows me will know that this is high praise indeed - i'm really fussy customer

His business card & contact details. Get on it - you won't be disappointed with his work  :4_17_5:.

Thanks for the great info.  Since I can't get ahold of Animal or Samzwell (don't know why  :'( ), I might give Geoff a try  :)

Try Sawzall  :daumenhoch:

I tried, he replied a few weeks ago, gave me some advice but I have since sent him 2 PMs asking if he could repair my frame without any answer...  :(
