oryg detangler advice please!
« on: March 10, 2016, 08:18 PM »
Hi
I need some advice please on the Oryg Detangler. I have purchased the below product for my firebird freestyler. My question is does this only let you connect to 1 brake lever? The instructions that came with it only show it connected to 1 lever. How do I go about having front & rear brakes set up? Apologies if this is a lame question!!!

no lame questions on here pal   :daumenhoch: if you don't ask you won't learn , :daumenhoch:

( although if you hang around long enough you realise there has been some corkers asked  :LolLolLolLol:

the detangler  you have is for the back brake , the front brake will have to run through a potts mod on your stem  ,  that is a hollow stem bolt that allows you to run the front cable through the forks , have a look at some of the pictures of freestyle bikes with two brakes using a gyro setup  , all will become clear  :daumenhoch:

Ok great, just searched ebay and there are some oddesey bolts for sale. By adding a detangler does it limit my choice of headset & stem I can use?

no  :daumenhoch:

theres 2 sizes of gyro tho - 1 1/8th for clamp on stems ... 1" for the older bikes

If you haven't got a headset yet and it's for an old school ride then buy yourself a Tioga Beartrap II.  They sell for about £30 and are simply the best 1" headset for a rider

what about the below, I have been thinking of getting one of these, a bit pricey admittedly.

TANGE MX-125 headsets, direct from Natsukashi Japan, via Boyds Bikes in London, UK.

I actually wouldn't bother with a gyro as they were a few years before the gyro came out.

Keep it clean and correct, how many bar spins and tail whips do you plan on pulling anyway

to be honest I was in two minds about putting it on. really I should be concentrating on getting the rest of the parts I need so I can start the build, which are headset, stem, seat post, BB & chainring!!!
