Anniversary Diamondback
« on: February 13, 2016, 09:36 AM »
Don't get too exited....it's just early discussion at the moment.

With it being 40 years of the first Diamond Back in 2017 and if Raleigh were to consider an anniversary model, or even two, which model name would you like to see on a frame and why (we're not talking frame design/components here, I'm going to start a thread about that later)?

For me it would be the Silver Streak because although I had one and I pampered it bitd, knowing that the Black/Chrome mixture was a risk for Diamond Back, it saved the brand from the brink of collapse.

Second would be the Harry Leary because this model for me marked the beginning of signature models of such a competitive and successful racer yet set the benchmark of mixing quality components with styling.

Defo those 2 Mark.

Obviously a well remembered brand from the 80s, although nobody near me owned one.

When I got back in, in 2008, I started my wish list, I could've put any model DB on the list, but it had to be the Silver Streak.

If someone said name a Diamond Back model. It would be the Silver Streak. Probably the most popular BMX round my way as a kid.  :daumenhoch:

Is there also some justification for it not to be based on any previous model or person since it might need to appeal to everyone and not just what is relevant to our yesterday?

The name and model will make it sell.  8) Look at how well the likes of Haro and Skyway have done.  :coolsmiley:

I'm fairly new the old school bmx thing, especially diamond backs.

My view is what will be the spec of the components?

If they go for the entry level bike then do the silver streak (I do like the chrome\black)

If they go all out and use some quality parts then do the Leary turbo.

I had a silver streak, although I like the earlier candy blue and red with gold parts and three piece cranks much more. So im going to build one. :daumenhoch:
If in doubt flat out.

Viper and Silver Streak shared the same geometry, same size frames but in a nutshell Viper was the cheaper all street budget model although they shared some components. The frame was High Tensile Steel throughout, whereas the Silver Streak was a mixture of Hi-Ten/Cr-Mo, hence the Tri-Moly label (oh and it was fabricated by Koizumi, whereas the Viper frame was Fairly and forks Akisu).  :daumenhoch:

Mmm if a remake of the SS or Turbo was to materialise I just know they would mess it up.  When I spoke to DB at Interbike they didn't even know who Kashimax was (perhaps since they are not really Diamond Back and just some giant company that owns brand names including DB).  Left to them to do this without appropriate input, I can only imagine the components they'd use.
