Barn find ..
« on: February 03, 2016, 06:52 PM »
Hi guys new to forum , spent my childhood summers heavily into bmx in mid eighties loved every minute of it and along with 6/7 others was lucky enough to have our own bmx track that got rode till dark every day of week , I'm now 40 and had my my memories re ignited by recently finding a complete original Raleigh flat frame burner in a barn which I tied in with a job I was doing for a customer. I'm undecided wether to restore it to excellent condition or to sell on and buy something completely restored the bike as it stands as said is in totally original condition just needing few NOS parts like cheng shins and frame stickers. Any ideas guys ?

Thanks for the info , been out the loop for long time now , looking at the bike I'd say it has been ridden for one summer then been sat ever since I'd say the tyres are same ones it was took out shop with same with the Tange grips and even brake blocks have minimal wear , need to decide wether to sell as is and find something I used as a kid or to source the few NOS parts I need like tyres , sticker kit etc to bring it back to its former life .. Any idea on what worth as it is?

What bike/s did you used to have as a kid?
The Burner is a nice little project and it looks in nice nick. The tyres are easily available as are the decals and any other parts you may need. I would say take it apart, clean and regrease as necessary, keep as original as possible and ride it and have a bit of fun! You will probably tire of how it rides quickly as they are not great but it will probably bring back to you how much fun riding a bmx is and you may want to progress to something more superior at a later date.
Value wise it is probably worth 3-400 when given  a little tlc....it is a nice survivor.
You can always sell it later to fund a better build and it will be good to re acqqaint yourself with taking a bmx apart etc
Oh, and you are in good company as I would say most people on her are 40 plus!  :daumenhoch:

Had a mongoose Californian and a diamond back wish I still had those bikes I struggle to remember what I sold them or even where they went .. It blows me away seeing NOS stuff like Oakley grips making big money on eBay when I was going thru about a set every few weeks cause of chewing the ends off from crashing , so many memories of bmx in general growing up when it was in its boom ! Happy days !
