The 'Show Us Your Aero Pro' Thread.
« on: January 18, 2016, 04:54 PM »
You see very few of these here on RAD, probably a stigma associated with the Burner name. But really, what's not to like, Tange made, so good quality, good geometry, light and as factory spec, came with some decent components.

So let's dedicate this thread to Aero Pro's/Team Aero Pro's/Pro Race's.

I don't understand the burner stigma. A lot of people starting out in bmx rode burners or other low end bikes. Most of my mates and me included started out on low end bikes, and I think to most people their first bmx will always be the one they have the fondest memories of.

I agree mate, I never had one BITD, but have built a few since 2008. Their best attribute is the waves of nostalgia that they create, but their worst are that they're heavy with poor geometry, not that many of us would have cared back then - you got what you were given.

Because with the exception of the Aero Pro, they were shocking....heavy and rubbish to ride due to the geometry. Sure, a lot of people started on them and for that reason they have a high nostalgic value. Some of them actually came with half decent parts but were all hampered by the frame. They may also have been the reason why many did not progress in BMX! Anyone who was half serious about riding couldn't wait til they had saved/ scrounged enough to upgrade at least the frameset.
My first BMX was not much better, a HEAVY Taiwanese Dragon freestyler which I struggled to wheelie...I hated it and could not wait to see the back of it...It has taken 30 years and lots of narcotics to erase all but a vague recollection of it!
if someone offered me one today I would probably feel sick......

BTW great thread Dan, love an Aero Pro...Will be nice to see what turns up...I would love one in team colours  :daumenhoch:

I myself had a few Burners which was the only bikes we (well parents) could afford.
If it wasn't for the halfords payment club I doubt I would have had one.
Had a ultra burner but to be honest it was shite but I loved it..
The best day was when I swapped all the bits onto my rebel pro frame and forks
what a "difference" :smitten: went onto do much more on this..
We all cut our teeth on them and broke them as the frames always snapped.. ::)
Here is my aero pro.
And building another aero pro in team colours which I am planning on racing in the old farts group this year.

I know I rib Tony and co about Burners but yes they do have a place in British BMX history. Raleigh was such a safe bet when buying a bike in the 70/80s but they faled miserably with the MK1 especially. Although I never owned one (phew!!!) I did once ride my cousins Super Burner from Smuggy c**thorpe to Brigg. If any of you know the A18 frm Scunny to Brigg you will appreciate what fooking stupid idea this was. How we didn't die riding past the steel works I'll never know. They were just awful to ride, too short and badly designed. It's a shame really but when their factory team had to sticker up Tange frames as their own it's a bad show for British industry. That said, they weren't on their own, Falcon did exactly the same thing with the big lads riding the Rhino Charge, the mediums the Rhino III and the little uns the Tange mini.

Love em or loath em they are iconic and will always turn heads of those who mutter "Oh look a Burner, I had one of those...."

That is the nail on the head. Most of us had one to start (there was 30 of us who you used to hang around together) with, but it wasn't until my mate Lee got his Torker, that we all knew what we were missing out on. The Pro Burner frame I had was not too bad, but I started on a Super Burner, followed my a Super Tuff Burner. Swapping out to my Torker was a an absolute dream, and the progress we made just in riding, let alone tricks and jumps, was immense.

By the time the Aero Pro came out, we had all but forgotten Raleigh Burners and had moved on to light, decent frame sets.

I think anyone who knows anything about OSBMX, knows that the TAP/AP are nothing but quality race bikes. Equal to any of the top US brands that had bikes out of Japan at that time.

Right, I see....always learning stuff on this forum, that's what I love about it. That would make it pretty rare then...do you know roughly how many they made?

I don't tbh Damo, but Beard or Julian Taff will be able to say.

I think some Koizumi made Cromo's were done the same way, just using different colours.
