My Aero Pro Burner Project
« on: January 18, 2016, 01:39 PM »
Hi
Just dug out my old Aero Pro Burner, this bike was always by my side when I was a lad, time to give it some TLC. I have striped it down, polished the frame and forks. do I keep the original decals or swap them for some new ones....mmm??
The brakes are next on the list.

Cheers

Original/Survivor look is very 'in', so you may want to consider recycling as many of the original parts as possible.

And, as Nick said, don't do anything until we've seen your bike, then we can offer some decent advice about it, it's up to you then how you want to do it.

What Nick and Dan said dude! ^^^^

I'm doing an aero pro burner resto at the mo' mine had a few bits beyond repair so I've changed them .. Others I've polished or re-sprayed or done so light resto on....

It's really hard to get that original shade of decal right on these bikes so if the decals are half decent then they've got to stay.
I had no choice on mine as they'd been replaced with solid black ones ( yuk! ).
If you do need replacements then Del is your man mate.  :daumenhoch:

Don't worry a full build thread will appear when it's finished.
Hoping to get it done in time for Chester mate :daumenhoch:

I don't think that they're original decals, they look too red, they were more of a copper colour, could be the light though. That top tube decal position look a bit high also.

The frame and forks may just want a polish though.

Looking at the bigger pics you've posted, the decals look more original than I first thought, and I've  loved at the Raleigh brochure pics on Google (see below) and the position of the Pro Burner decal looks correct, I think it's wrong on my frame. Lol

Top pic is the 1983 model, below is the 1984 model.

I reckon it's just the light Dan...the decals look OG to me. Keep the original decals if you can, as previously said new decals never look quite like the originals .
I reckon they were making so many bitd as demand was so high because of the way BMX blew up, that they got a bit slapdash with decals....I have looked at many Haro frames looking for the correct position for the Bob Haro decal on the rear stays...Looked at 3 OG frames and they were all in different positions!  :daumenhoch:

Peek is what most people recommend...I have also heard of Goddards Silver cloths being used first prior to the Peek  :daumenhoch:
