NEWBIE, Grifter convert... ADVICE NEEDED!
« on: December 17, 2015, 11:15 AM »
Hi all, getting into this bike stuff again, and after a couple of years enjoying my mint MK2 Grifter, I fancied an old School BMX.

Seen a few about, many copies and have used the search facility here to reserach as much as I can.  But is there any way of telling from a serial number on a frame how old the bike/frame is?

Been offered a Falcon Freestyler with the frame number CS10804994.  I initially figured it was a 90's bike as it has the rear loop at the stem of the seat mount section whereas 80's variants I have seen havent got this.

Any ideas?

Been offered money back if its not a genuine rather than a later knock off... but would rather check with those in the know!

no idea what that is, but it definitely looks 90s to me and parts look fairly low spec.

not sure what the guy wants for it but if it's very cheap it might do you as a rider

Been offered it pretty cheap buddy, ..... but only really want a genuine 80's or mid 90's bike really.... hence trying to gauge the rough year...

 :welcome to  :radbmxsmilie:  :daumenhoch:

I know nothing about Falcon BMX, guess it must be pre 95 as it has a 1" Headset.

you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig!

If you want a cheap looking, heavy, fugly bike go with it. If you hold your horses and do some research I'm pretty sure you'll find the bike of your dreams :daumenhoch:

Lol thanks folks, no I havent bought it yet.

It seemed a cheap buy, and whilst I am not looking for a top notch best brand bike (I spend too much on my car collection to have much left over!!!) I just want a nice genuine 80's or very early 90's bike.... but as I say, a nice one not a crap-heap.  All input gratefully received and taken on board  :)

I can tell you this. Its a mass produced frame from Taiwan that sold under multiple brands, anyone selling one always chooses to say its a falcon as its the name with the most old schol street cred, chances are it was actually a ninja street twister or something equally as gay.
and finally the seat you have is off a Lew-Ways Aero Stinger, no value to it unless you can find someone thats restoring one of the 3 known in the UK, even then its only worth a tenner
