Paint stripping
« on: January 18, 2016, 04:28 PM »
Hi all,

I have a Curtis frame that needs to be stripped. It does not have the OG finish. Thinking it was paint, I initially tried paint stripper (Nitromers) and after that didn't touch it, gasket remover (thinking it might be powder coated) and that did nothing either!  ???

I need to get the paint off to see what's going on underneath.

Is sand blasting too aggressive? Could it affect the detail of the brazing? Is there a less abrasive option? Its going to be powder coated afterwards btw.

Any advice would be gratefully received.  :daumenhoch:

A lot of guys use Synstrip John, you can buy it off eBay. It's pretty harmful stuff though by all accounts, so take care mate.

It is, I've used it and its nasty, but I did pop into SBD's once and he was using it without gloves! Its about conditioning!!
When I was born, the world was a far simpler place.
It was all just cops and robbers.
And BMX.

If it's going to be powdered then let the coater strip it and have a look at it before it's re-done.

Sod fannying about with it!

Nice stuff! I will keep the cat indoors!  ;)

Thanks for the early replies. Any thoughts on the blasting option?!
