King Trial frame, Some other bits mocked up
« on: December 12, 2015, 04:36 PM »
Picked this up earlier today, It's seen some action, Not sure what I'm going to do with it. There's not a lot of info out there. Looks like they did a euro BB version and a US BB version also I've seen brake lugs on the chain stays.
Can't see a frame number stamp anywhere.

Purchase was inspired by Gordy's Liberty

Isn't this the model Stauffer rode when he was on King?

No idea, I bought it because of how good Gordy's Liberty looked and it was local to me so I could collect, I only paid £33 for the frame :daumenhoch:
From what I can gather the Liberty frames were only made for a few years and this model was only made in one year 2004.
If anyone has any info or magazine scans I would be interested too see them. I have been thinking about doing the frame green, Seen some pics of Liberty's in green.
Also I bought some green Primo Wall's the other month of eBay. So might go down the green/black path.
I'd like to know what the orginal colours that they came in were. Fingers crossed once I take the BB and headset out there might be signs of the original colour.

I'm hoping it will stay cheap, The tyres were only £6. And I bought 4 complete bikes in the past for various parts from them, 1 I bought just for the FBM Bottleneck stem :idiot2:
So I have some Pitch forks, Slam bars and a few other bits knocking around. But I want to finish my AOD before I get into this ;)

Very Nice! I love these Euro BB midschool frames. They were at a real turning point in BMX.
I have read that the T1 barcodes used this frames front end. If you haven't messaged Gordy, then do that. He might know about colors.

It wont be a quick build, Still trying to decide what to do about all the dents.
Pretty set on the idea of doing the frame green though :-\

Sawzall will sort out the dents and have it looking like new again. Definitely worth having him do it for you.  :daumenhoch:

Well upon closer inspection there was some blue paint around the seat clamp area. So think it was originally the blue in john4130's post above. I stripped the frame of the clear coat and gave it a citric acid bath, Then gave it a coat of grey primer to protect it and show up the dents, There's lots of them.
Then it has just sat at work. Went back and forth in my head about colour, Green, Burgundy, Brown.
Went back and forth about the dents, Leave them, Get the body shop downstairs to work to fix them.
Decided to leave them and just paint the thing.
Got a few strange looks today when I walked into B&Q with a Primo Wall tyre in green, Couldn't find anything close to the tyre so went to Halfords and found a almost perfect match in Vauxhall Leaf Green.
Gave it a coat before I left work, Will try and get a pic tomorrow.

Better pics of the green

Noticed a couple of bits of grey primer that I missed with the green, I was going to give it another coat in any case.
I'm liking the green, Seen a few green S&M's lately that convinced me to try it.

Painting frames is fooking hard! Whenever I have tried I always missed bits, and I painted alloy wheels for years... :daumenhoch:

Very Nice!
I have a 2015 S&M ATF that I was looking at painting olive/army green. I asked on the BMXM forum about the RAL code but no replies.

Don't think they use the RAL colour code system in the states... RAL is a european thing.  :daumenhoch:

Put a few bits together to see if I'm on the right track.

I think I'm going in the right direction, Got a Pig Pro to go on it. Got a King stem on it's way aswell.
Thinking off doing a 48h wheel on the rear and 36h on the front, Will have to see what bits come up.
Not sure on cranks, I've got Primo's on a couple of builds and I even bought a NOS Primo euro bb. But looking at it I think Profiles would be good.
I do have a set of SS cranks that came with the original 7/8 axle but also a 22mm Ti axle.
