Also unlike your sliding post Zima this 1's seat tube is full fat size, it has a plastic shim

mine was full fat size too! I had to get a fat shim for it

Little update :

Finally got my Zima forks, Reaction Boa and Gsport bars off young Olly  :daumenhoch:

Forks are off to be dechromed :-)

Phil has finished rebrazing the brake mounts on so the frame is heading back to me next week ... things are happening :-)

Zima quandary ... help needed ... now sorted!
« Reply #41 on: February 28, 2016, 11:18 PM »
So I've got this Zima prototype frame ... I bought it towards the end of last year but it only arrived the other day ... sold the one I had but kept all the parts thinking they would go on to this new one ... but now its in my hands things are not so straight forward!

First of all it LOOKS like a normal Zima ... but when you pick it up its a shock ... the frame only weighs 2kg!!! This frame is THE one and only lightweight Zima.

The tubes are the same diameter as a normal Zima but really thin... the dropouts are also made of much thinner material ... its all round a much more light weight frame.

Phil Sawzall has been putting some 990 mounts back on it for me and when I was chatting with him he screwed my build ideas up by saying "its a light as a race bike ... why not build it as a race bike".

Olly told me that Steve built it as a jump bike ... so I've given Steve a shout on Facebook to find out how he thought it should be built... but the more I think about it it doesn't feel right to build it as a freestyle bike ... its just too light to handle it... unless it was just built out of lighter materials because it was just a prototype for the sliding post model ... but then why would the sliding post version need a prototype? its exactly the same other than with a sliding seat post ... hopefully Steve can answer some of these questions.

Also Sen has a set of Zima forks that are s h o r t leg with no peg mounts ... maybe they were made for this frame?

So ... do you think I could build it as a race bike ... or a trails bike ... or should I just stick to a freestyler?

What's wrong with having a lightweight freestyler  :daumenhoch:
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

theres nothing wrong with it as such ... but the build philosophy behind the Zima was strength through big fat heavy as fook tubes ... this is something different  :daumenhoch:

Those forks look lush!
I guess the lines were getting blurred between race/ freestyle / trails  by this point...
I would just build it as an all rounder with nice parts I reckons...but I know fook all about mid school  :idiot2: :idiot2:

You'd be surprised how many NBL and ABA mains were won with bikes that had 990 lugs.  :daumenhoch:

Ed, its not a race bike. Start and end of it.  :)

Saying that everyone builds Zimas the same. Id sugest it needs Sens forks, 2pc bars, and 2 pegs on the one side. Build it into a proper mid trails / street / park bike, not a tank for tanks sakes.

Lightweight freestyler  :daumenhoch:

well that was the other red herring Rob ... before I had felt how light it was I saw that it had the hole in the seat tube for the 990 ... Olly had asked Phil to put lugs on and I thought it needed them too ... but I kind feel the same about a race bike ... but I'm sure some trails bikes had them?
