DP Firebird Freestyler
« on: November 19, 2015, 05:02 PM »
Hi

Hopefully going to start a DP Firebird Freestyler build, can anyone tell me what forks I should have on this bike and any particular handlebars that are in keeping with an original build? Also if you can steer me in the right direction where I can get these two items?

cheers

Jason

Hi Jason, if your frame is a Mk1, then you'll need Mk1 forks, and the same goes for if its a Mk2. Unfortunately, DP forks are really hard to come by. I've seen many wanted threads from people looking for a set, it seems most of them stayed with the frames.

As for bars. The ideal bars would be DP ladder bars, still quite hard to get hold of, but they do appear from time to time, but expect to pay £350-£450 for a set.

Hope this helps?

DP forks were odd looking and flared out as they went towards the dropouts. Someone here will know if there's another (available) brand similar.

I've seen a FB with early Haro forks that looked alright. It's probably just a matter of taste.

As for handlebars the choice is endless. My old Mark 1 back then had Diamondback bars as I never got round to buying freestyle specific ones. Hutch do new versions of their ladder bars for about £60. I'd be inclined to watch the sales on the BMX museum and see what old ones pop up.
Gertcha!

I'd go with Hutch ladders, or Skyway EZII's myself.
