Drastic Action & a Sympathetic Resto
« on: October 11, 2015, 08:27 PM »
I've gathering parts for my current build as cash allows and suitable candidates come up. Trouble is, as for most of us, it's sometimes damn difficult finding the exact parts you're after in the colour you want.

Anyway, my build:

http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,179604.msg1803559.html#msg1803559

As such I'm wanting to go chrome and black, but as much chrome as possible. Well I picked a lovely NOS headset and seat post clamp just one was in black and the other blue.

After putting trade ad's up on a few separate occasions, and getting zero responses I took a brave pill (may be a stupid pill in some people's minds) and got the oven cleaner out before moving on to the polishing wheel. Think they turned out ok. Sorry if it upsets some but I did try to trade before hand.

After the stripper:

and then some polishing:

finally some of Del's finest and all finished:

And the seat post clamp:

NOS (don't hate me):

Stripped:

Polished:

Then my stem. Picked this up a while back and didn't want to go for a re-chrome:

So after 3 grades on the polishing wheel it's not perfect but a heck of a lot better:

Cheers

liquid drain cleaner is better to use than oven cleaner. less likely to pit the item you're de-annoing.
and much better for your health!
you want the stuff that has the same ingredient as drano. i think it might be sodium hydroxide.

As above, oven cleaner has some pretty nasty stuff in it. Go to your local hardware store and just ask for caustic soda. Still pretty horrid stuff but its the best product for the job, and when you are done pour it down the drain and it will be clean as a whistle.  :LolLolLolLol:
