What we love about MK...
« on: September 06, 2015, 12:40 PM »
Chatting to some Radsters about MK at Radport yesterday there are rumours abound about suggested changes to MK for next year...
Rather than focus on rumours and hearsay I'd thought I'd start a positive thread on all the elements of MK that we all love and hold dear to the best BMX weekend in the whole country!

I'll start the ball rolling with....

I love the fact the event is right next to a BMX track!
I love the fact us oldies still get the chance of rolling around a track and I do love to watch the racing... It's just brilliant!

So lads what parts of "MK" do you hold dear and which parts of the whole event makes it special for you ?

Cheers, Ant

All the bikes. You wont get another chance to see as many quality builds in one place as MK.

Secondly, catching up with all the forum members you dont see for the 12 months between shows.

I love the bikes... loads of lush bikes.  :4_17_5:
I love The Dog and Duck.  :4_17_5:
I love having a bonding weekend with my 2 boys with no woman to keep us inline.  :4_17_5:

I don't love waking up Sunday morning with a fat lip, bruised chin and swollen nose because I cant breakdance anymore.  :teef:

I've only been twice. Last year and this year. I bloody love it! I wasn't sure what to expect the first time but it's like anything you could want. For me it all boils down to two elements, the bikes and the blokes that bring them! I'm a bit if an ignorant get but I've not been to an MK or a ride and not got on with everyone I've met. You can't beat it. Add that to the lake ride, the Dog & Duck and the different groups of people around the place and it's great. None of that would happen with out all of the hard work done behind the scenes and all through the weekend by everyone involved with organising everything.

Long live  :radbmxsmilie: and the annual pilgrimage of MK  :4_17_5:

Apart from the obvious things like the fantastic people, bikes, generally having a great time, there are other things i like about MK, and MK specifically. I love the fact that MK is actually held at a bmx track. Last year i fulfilled a long standing ambition to enter a proper race, something i never did back in the day. The fact that i finished last didn't matter - i was thrilled to get all the gear on and have a go. I absolutely loved it!

I didn't race this year, but still had a few blasts round the track on the Saturday. That's another thing that's great- it's a real old school type track. Even for those who don't have a go, the track is a great focal point for the event site, and gives us all the occasional reminder of why/how we're into BMX in the first place, and how and why we camp in a field for the weekend.

I really like the location of the track too. You can't please all the people all the time, but MK is probably the best location to make it accessible for most radsters - even those travellling from Belgium- nice one Christophe  :4_17_5:

Although it's great that the old school (and mid school) scence is as vibrant as ever, i like that it's still a fairly small, friendly and free event. Wherever you look, there are familiar faces, and radsters prepared to help out or just keep on eye on your bikes/stuff while you go for a wander. I love that. I love  :radbmxsmilie:

Great second pic Andy. Run that through a instagram filter and it could look like a pic from bitd  :daumenhoch:
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

Best intentions went a bit pear shaped and it was a little disappointing. An area was set up of SE bikes but only about 10 or so showed up, effort was made to get loads of bikes there but it seemed not that many were interested.  :-[
As you walked around on the Saturday the majority of people seemed to keep their bikes where they were camping rather than leaving them in the arena area.

I know Rob, a few of us were asking and pestering plenty all day.  Shame it didn't work out as we'd hoped it would.
