D.I.Y. Anodising
« on: June 09, 2015, 08:56 PM »
So, as most of you who know me, I try to get the maximum looks out of my builds, with minimum cost....this Robinson build is no different.

I wanted a rear caliper in red on it, and after seeing a thread of Andy's (DTTDB), where he'd bought some paint and got his wheels done, I decided that this was the way to go for me.

A already had a spare copy MX1000, which is a front - the rear had been used on a race bike, so it was surplus, and didn't matter if I fooked it up. I have a spare rear spindle, so I ordered the paint off eBay (£12 posted), and went for it.

The caliper is raw alloy, I don't think lacquered, so took the gamble of not prepping it.

I whacked the first coat on about 10 mins ago, it will get a couple more, and a coat of lacquer, or 2.

Remember to stick the bits in an oven at 100c for an hour or it will chip off like crazy.

A couple more pics, after a 2nd coat....

I've ordered some decals today off Del for this, and it will be getting a good bake.

that was my experience with it, no doubt somebody who knows better than me will tell me I did it wrong and mustn't have followed the instructions like they invariably do!

Hope it works out for you Dan, honest :LolLolLolLol:

They look decent Dan  :daumenhoch:

Worth a go and tbh a brake caliper shouldn't see much 'chip' action  :-\

they don't do gold though...only blue, red and purple!
When I was born, the world was a far simpler place.
It was all just cops and robbers.
And BMX.

Put some lacquer on it, and it will be as hard as nails.

I've used that paint loads of times with great results but u don't need to put it in the oven.. but a warm environment helps

Just being extra safe, I'll whack a lacquer on it too.  :daumenhoch:

When another garage brought a car to me with a problem that they couldn't fix they would say you don't need to check this, this, this, this and this because I've already done that... it must be something else!

I'd take no notice what so ever of their comments and start from the beginning... 9 times out of 10 the fault was something they had checked already...!

Everyone has their own way of doing things, some folk are just better at the basics.

My philosophy is always give it a go, if you fail you ain't the first to do so and you wont be the last!

I didn't have a good nights kip last night so I'm feeling a little emotional today.  :'(
If this post make no sense at all just keep scrolling...

P.S. all this talk of chips and oven temperatures is making me hungry!!
