Frame Spraying

So who on here sprays their own frames with cans? you know rubs them down, undercoat, rub, undercoat, rub etc etc......always did this as a kid.

Also how thick is the powder coat that SBD does?

Not me, would rather send it to SBD as I know I'll get a flawless finish without being too thick & blobby
Plus he also does wet painting - he did my ripper & that came out lovely

Do more people tend to get their frames wet painted now, than powder?  I prefer the look of paint.  Was your ripper the blue one?

I think most people go for powder as it's more durable, but I went for paint as being thinner than powder it helps show the details of the welds better (& they were painted BITD anyway)

And yes it was/is blue

cheers guys, I always worry about powder as I've had a few frames that have had a right good coating, might go down the wet paint route then....

Will check out the SBD thread again.

Although think I will can spray my DP from BITD......labour of love an all...

Honestly I've done the spray can route, time you have bought all the materials and covered everything in a film of overspray it's not worth the hassle and it's not very robust.
 SBD does a cracking job, a very good price for the amount of work involved  and hard wearing, just give it to Dan  for what he charges to do a frame it cost me nearly the same in materials.

i spray can my bikes, i use graffiti paint i buy online for about £3 - £3.50 a tin. the range of colours are huge so you can get pretty close to a colour match plus the satisfaction of doing it yourself. it will never be as good as the quality of SBD's work, but it's good enough for me. i painted my 88 master myself, i used the decals to try match the colours on screen and got almost a perfect match.

It's more the memory of spraying my bikes that makes me want to try again, wouldn't be hard to better my incompetent attempts as a kid....

Does SBD strip the frames? should probably look at the sticky thread.....

I remember it.  That's my thoughts they were always paint never powder.  Although I can understand why having powder for a rider.
