All things Zima - Info & Registry
« on: May 10, 2015, 07:49 AM »
Info :

In the early 90 Zima frames were born from the mind of Steve Geall. designed in the UK by Steve and handbuilt by Steve and his Dad John, the first Zima came out in 93 and they continued to make frames until 96.

Approximately 88 frames were built ... mainly the original fixed seat post style with a run of sliding post versions towards the end. Made from Reynolds 531 tubing they were all built in Southampton, England in Steve's shed. Each frame was custom made & personalised for each rider with a custom seat tube height and stamped with their initials. You could order the frame with any style of brake mount you wanted ... or long of short legged forks ... any colour, raw or deep chrome. Steve still has a list of all frames made and for who ... I'd love to get a scan of that one day :-)

The red frame is DW46, being rebuilt so will post pictures soon.

Would love to know were the other 80 frames are, no doubt rusting away in garden sheds/back gardens

How could he do that to your lovely frame Kev  ;D kids these days!

So .. I've found myself a sliding seat tube Zima out in Oz and its on the way back to me.

Owned by a guy called Rob Burke ... formally from Manchester ... he gave me this background info on the frame ...

"ok .. I did not buy it off Steve ( Geall ) ... my close friend Paul ( Howard ) from Dublin did. He had it for about 8 months then we traded frame & forks and seat post! i traded my usa built dyno slammer in late 95! i was hard into street riding and broke everything but not the Zima!!! I stoped riding it in 97 ... late Nov I think!! the stickers are new.. a friend made them for me!! The forks I gave away and the post bent!!! i had forgoten about it until my mate in Ireland Derrick who I was visiting said "I've got something you left at my house" and their it was !!! Paul said he bought it off Steve he could not afford to buy a full new Zima so steve offered him his from memory!!  Paul is on facebook as Radar Maglar! I have some other pics ... I will sort em out for ya!!!"

Looking forward to getting some more pics and getting some new decals to match the original ones it had.

I know he cant fooking leave things alone, was a nice survivor looking frame till he got his mitts on it

Oh well, i dont really care as it meant i got a og mk1 holmes for it and the zima cost me a lot less than a mk1 holmes would have so cant complain

Shame he sold it on as we both know the og owner and remember the frame when new, at least it hasn't traveled too far, it now lives in Hayling Island, at least Si will take good care of it
