Fork thoughts
« on: April 29, 2015, 09:17 PM »
Hiya kids
Being the kind & generous fella I am, I got these off the bay for a pal in the states. They duly arrived & I sent him some pics & he decided they were shite & doesn't want em........
They were horribly painted blue, I thought they were a pile of crap & back on the bay it was for em. Talking to uncle Clint who suggested that they may, possibly, could, might be some sort of prototype & not somebody's metalwork project. I stripped the paint ( blue, met purple & white powder ) & the forks are very well made with really distinctive drops, ok I'll agree the standers are a bit heath robinson BUT could they be a prototype kind of thing ?????
Thinking caps on fellas & what do we reckon ??

Still Reckon they are Rickman, Rich. The motorcycle style drops and brazing is the firm link for me  :daumenhoch:

I haven't got a scooby but, if it was me, I would remove those standers and get the fork chromed.

The standers look like someone just added them later on to keep up with the Jones' so to speak.

Look a similar idea them Andy, any chance of some close up piccys please bud ???

Agree the standers are a bit of a lash up,  the 6 million dollar question is did someone's dad do em in the lunch break or is mr Rickman or other maker having a play with an idea  :chin:

The standers are shaped very like the production rickman type - maybe threw on in an "I wonder"  :chin: moment?

What's the underside of the fork steerer tube like where it meets the fork legs - does it look like double walled and welded / brazed?

Im not sure Andy's are the same Rich. They may look a similar shape but they have a definate sharp shoulder on the round section with a weld bead above it yours look like they are brazed/welded from underneath the drop section. its possible Peugeuot had a similar idea, remember they made all kinds of motorised bikes for the french market  ???
