Do the Retro Quads have a pre-drilled hole in the brake bridge?  ??? Looks like the one above has, or has that been drilled after?  :-\

I agree on the better stopping power rob but I can't stand the look of them , they remind me of those shite low budget bikes made of pig iron

They are also used on $11,000 carbon race bikes that weigh 10.98lbs, doesn't make them attractive I agree but it does mean they are highly effective and weight efficient

Whats the matter Kid, don't ya like clowns? Don't we make you laugh? Aint we fukkin funny?

It looks that way, my wife has plastic (well resin) V-brakes on her Redline BMX.

I think it's absolutely mental butchering a frame to fit side pull calipers which were even out of date when they were fitted to BMXs 30 years ago.

These retro frames weren't designed for calipers, for example, if your fit an MX1000 to a Skyway TA replica it will just about reach with the rear wheel slammed making getting the right chain tension nigh on impossible.

Side pull calipers were cheaper to manufacture and fit than centre pull calipers or cantis so they were brake of choice.

I actually quite like the look of V brakes on retros.

All types of brakes have been used on the cheap bikes, was calipers and it's now V brakes, I've seen them with a caliper on the front and a V brake on the back.

Yep V brakes don't have to be factory fitted cheap chunks of cast alloy, they can be lovely CNC bits of alloy which pull your spleen out when you pull the lever and actually stop you
