Removing anno from rims.
« on: April 12, 2015, 12:14 PM »
Anyone done this without de-lacing the wheel?
I've got a set of wheels that I want to remove the anno from the rims but don't want the hassle of un-building and re-building the wheels. When they first got built I had already stripped the hubs with oven pride.
Do you think it will be OK to remove the axles and bearings and put the whole wheel in a caustic soda bath?

I wouldn't - for a start off you'll end up with black shit around where the nipples are that'll be a bigger pain in the ass to polish out than de-lacing the rim.

Just de-lace it fella, it'll save you a load of extra time and hassle in the long run  :daumenhoch:

no need to unlace the wheels, i've  done this a few times with no problems and perfect results.
1) use caustic soda not oven pride
2) no need to strip the hub out
3) use your sink with the caustic solution and a bowl with clean water
4) submerge the rim a section at a time in the solution until anno is removed and rinse immediately until the whole rim has been de-anno'd
5) rinse whole rim again
6) dry and polish with Mothers polish
