Time to start the Marlboro woody build
« on: March 24, 2015, 09:42 PM »
Im sure some of you will remember me looking for an early lugged Marlboro frame a while back.
Back in October i got a call out of the blue and my long search was over, the frame landed and plans were drawn up.

House moves, Christmas, work schedules and a certain franch race frame with a stuck seatpost all conspired to halt the project but a length of 1 1/8th inch diameter steel rod turned up today and was the catalyst to get the ball rolling.

The poor frame had obviously had a hard life and some agricultural type had been running around on it without any bottom cup and bearings

With a nod of advice from Phil and a new toy in the shape of a planishing hammer, i spent this afternoon coaxing the flaired tube back straight using my heavy lump of 1 1/8 inch rod as a former.

This is set to be quite a lengthy build and as the title suggests it may contain some carpentry porn  :D

Plenty more pics coming soon

Oh yes

And you've already built the pedals  :daumenhoch:

I thought of you when I saw these a little while back

Im shying away from wooden rims Griff but i did build a steam box today too. The chainstays and bars especially are going to be an interestingly steep learning curve. Ive only done a little steam bending years ago

It took a fair while to coax it back but was strangely satisfying  :D

Opinions on my inlay option 1 or 2?

Im more inclined to option 2 myself  :)

Frame jig is all but finished. It wont win any beauty pageants but its rigid and has plenty of adaptability with sliding mounts in the base  :)

I improvised some centering cones out of these firm rubber door stops from clas ohlson

Hacksaw or angle grinder?..... hmmmm  :chin:

Got nowhere fast today  >:(
Turns out a lunch hour of filing gleans little in the way of results.
Tempted to alter the shape of the drops too or maybe drill a hole or two  :chin:
