Sun Rimmage

Hi guys.

I am putting together a rare, beautiful piece of American BMX history and, apart from a couple of items that will need to be Japanese, most parts are American made. Anyhow, I wanted some American rims that were available in 1984 which led me to Sun. The first generation of Sun rims were steel and stamped on the face of the rim, the second gen were the same style, made of alloy and had eyelets fitted. I managed to track down a NOS set (wow!) of second gen rims and they are gorgeous but, one of them has a slight water mark on it. I don't want over polished items fitted to the bike as I prefer the original finish myself so, would this be okay to leave as is?

100% leave it as is Terry - although I'm not into blingy builds myself.

To be honest - you'd be hard pushed to get shot of that damage anyway I reckon. They look chromed, and if they are that staining is prob under the first chrome surface so it'd be a strip and rechrome anyhoo

Thanks Dan. They are not chromed buddy, just plain alloy. When I got them, the original plastic coating they are wrapped in was still partially applied to them, which is where the water has got to on the one of them.

I hate polishing items that do not require it and prefer to have original finish items over anything else so I wouldn't even think of getting them polished out. I would just like to know if it is okay to leave as is without worrying of any further damage occurring.

I did use a little alloy polish on a rag to just go over them lightly, very lightly to be honest with you, and the mark is stained on the surface. There is no 'eating' of the alloy present at all
