1st build - 84 Curtis Expert
« on: November 10, 2014, 06:02 PM »
Hi,

This is my 1st build; an 84 Curtis Expert.

I had one back in the day, albeit chrome / black finish. I have attached some pics from the actual day we picked it up from Brian in Frome. We lived locally. Probably the best day of my life up to that point! I loved that bike. :) I recall being told it was the first black decaled Expert, but that is a vague (30 year old) memory.

Moving on 3 decades, I decided to track down another. I couldn’t find a chrome frame, so went for a white finish. Helped by SBD (for those who haven’t used him, he is as good as they say he is) and Del of course who did the decals. Thanks to them and for the wealth of info I have tapped on this forum. The knowledge retained within these pages never ceases to amaze me

Quick parts list (mix of NOS, OG and a few repop bits):
Frame & Forks: Curtis Expert (10/84)
Handlebar: Brian Curtis (OG)
Stem: Tuf Neck
Cranks: Sugino OPC
Chainwheel: Tuf Neck
Wheels: UKAI 20 x 1.50 / Suzue Sealed hubs
Brakeset: Dia Compe MX901 / Tech 4 / 83 DC Cable
Pedals: MKS 7
Seat: Jaguar Aero
Clamp: Suntour
Plate: Air Dam Uni Turbo

I hope you like it.
Nick

Great work, I had a Curtis frame in black briefly a couple of years ago, no forks though, so sold it, regret it now

Nice build buddy  :daumenhoch:

If you can though, build a rep of the bike you had back then. You will not regret it  :coolsmiley:

Hi Terry, good advice, although I've got a JMC survivor to work on first  :daumenhoch:

Thanks to everyone for the feedback…it's appreciated.

Love it, my first race bike was a chrome red decaled expert. Loved it. My fav bike. On the lookout to do a build of that exact bike, its still very much in my memory bank!
I remember Brian very well, he was a good man and often at Bath track where i raced.
