I'm done with old school.
« on: February 15, 2015, 09:54 PM »
I've been giving it some thought today and i've decided i'm about done with old school.  I'm not giving up completely....... Not much hope with 3 mid school and a pit bike build on the go, but i've had my fill of faked, fooked and general shite tat often being pedelled as mint NOS.

I like engineering and resto work so have decided to stick to what i enjoy and spend more time resurrecting wrecks and the odd mid school build rather than building 80s show bikes.

I've been lucky enough to have built every bike i ever wanted back when i couldn't afford them and a few more besides all with the help of the RAD members, but every time i get screwed over i lose a bit of the love.  I''m going stick to scrubbing tyres in the ensuite ;)

I'm feeling a bit like that myself Bert  :-\

I have knowingly used a couple of re-pop items on builds but, with the mass of reproduction parts out there and, as you rightly say, people selling hard to find parts and being told they are genuine NOS items, only to find they are not, makes it too hard for me to build mint bikes. That and the ever soaring costs of these parts.

I am enjoying putting together a few beaters at the moment with genuine used old school parts and actually riding them to be honest  :daumenhoch:

Funnily enough i don't have a problem with repop bits, just with the blatent fakery, or misrepresentation of parts.  At least with midschool you generally know what you're getting as the cost and weight of materials to fake bits would be enough to put people off  ;D

Even some of the mid parts are getting pricey - mostly by chancers mind..... I'm building what i like to look at now, rather than trying to track down OG air.....

Now it would cost £1500 to build a tatty supergoose rider with no chance of ever making it look mint.
I would like to build a 1978 motomag monoshock but the cost of parts is slowing me down some what

the way prices have gone recently have ruined it for me, too many people just interested in money and not the love of it, there are still some decent people out there though.  :)

Yep.. Prices have gone up..  Loads more at this hobby than ever. So the dilemma is.. Do you sell your gear to someone that's just going to keep it for a week and sell it to the new money For  double..
I've seen a Hutch pro racer F&F with set of  powerbends go for £600.. So sell it cheap and feed the greed.. No way!!
All this new money won't be around for long.. 👍

Really...? Using gold & platinum?! That seems expensive...
