84 Supergoose Freshen Up

I got my Supergoose back in 2011, of one if my best friends. It belonged to his ex Wife whose bike it was when she was a kid. When they divorced, she cleaned him out, totally.

So when he was remarrying in 2008, we were on his stag doo in Prague, and I mentioned that I'd stumbled back into OSBMX, and he told me that he thought that Meg's old Goose was still tucked away in his Dad's lock-up.

Sure enough, it was there, but in a sorry state (wearing white Raleigh mags from a Vektar).

So he dug it out, and did a resto on it, and in doing so, found the Pro Class rims in the loft if the lock up.

Now my mate's resto was in no way on the same level as some of the guys on here, but he did very well IMHO, including lacing the rims to the hubs following a tutorial off YouTube.

Moving to 2011, he asked me if I wanted it, and after he said he wanted £350 for it complete, I took it home.

I stripped it totally, cleaning and polishing as much of the OG parts as possible. The frame's not too bad, a few scabs and a bit of chrome peel in areas, and a fair amount of rust beneath the BB gusset.

My mate Wayne had replaced the spokes, tyres, grips and cables, and I replaced the seat.

I got to work on the rest, a pad set off Steve and decals from the states, and a lot of polishing.

But me never being happy and content, took it a bit further and went down the dressing it in white route, then blue.

It's fair to say, it's been a proper work horse, and utilitarian, going on 5 rides that I remember, and 2 trips to the Rhyl track, a really solid rider.

But, last July, I met up with Jeff Gough and co. near Wrexham, and we had an evening blast around Alyn Waters. On this ride out, I was getting the odd clunk around the BB during crank turns, so I decided to put it into dry dock over the Winter, and strip it to investigate.

While I was at it, I sourced some black bits, as I wanted it to return to that classic Goose look.

First job, strip the BB, and I unfolded a horror story

The rest wasn't in too bad a shape really, just needing a wipe, but I had sent the OG 44t to Dan for a re-powder as it was peeling a bit.

And they are oval slotted to cover both 110 and 130 BCDs so look a bit odd right?

Only an anal fooker would moan about that!

I didn't think it mattered what side of the spider the ring went.
I thought it was what ever gave the best chain alignment.

There is that but most rings, discs and spiders have grooves in them for the bolts to seat in. Mixing a Sugino ring with a Tuf Neck disc means you have to put the ring on backwards or else it won't seat correctly. It's generally Sugino that is the odd way round.

Very nice Dan. The black/chrome colour scheme is my favourite of the 3 colour combinations.
