Crank set help

Hi Guys
just need some help. I have a 26' SE racing quadangle. its got  American bb and a three piece 180mm crank with a 19mm spindle. will a european crank set fit it? or do i have to have the entire thing replaced. trying to make it as light and quick as possible and i am pretty sure the stock crankset is not up to much. thanks chaps.

Put up some pictures, you'd be surprised how strong they'll be.

just use the bike for cruising. i am too old these days to thrash around! i was looking to lighten the bike and get a smoother quicker ride.

They'll probably hollow steel cranks which will be about as light as most cranks to be honest.

Bung up some pictures of your bike and people might be able to suggest bits to change for you?

Lighter kevlar tyres?
New lighter wheel set?

it looks like fab (to me anyway) and rides lovely. although replacing cranks a bb is a right job. i fear i am just spending money for no good reason!!!

only two things wrong with that.

1. The seat angle is a bit wrong

2. THOSE BARS!  they need to be inline with the forks, it's not an old school bike with shyte geometry

If you need the bars in that position to ride comfortably then you have the wrong size frame.

Just needs a little fettling and fitting and will look cool

Looks set up for cruisin, ie, sitting on the seat leaning forward, putting the seat up and moving the bars back will give a similar postition.

Coventional bike fitting suggests you sit on the seat and balls of feet on pedals legs should be slightly bent with knees over the pedals, much easier on the knees for us old farts.

Profile cranks would look good on it.

Hi Guys

Right. I am being a total numpty here. I have never had a threadless headset before. My last bike was a mongoose decade in the 90's!!
I have moved the bars back so that they are following the angle of the forks. Now when I ride it they bars feel way to low (I am 6ft 1). I just tried to raise the headset and realised that I cant really as the stem is attached to the forks and there is nothing to play with. do i need new forks with a longer bit that goes through the tube on the frame? thanks guys.

  Yep-looks like the steerer tube on your forks is too short to raise the stem any higher.Try taller bars and/or a riser stem.
