Would try putting it back in the CA bath as a starting point

I'll stick my chemistry head on here - if I remember correctly citric acid (C6H8O7 if you want to get tech) reacts with nickel oxide (NiO)  Nickel is resistant to Citric acid, however, Nickel oxide is not.

In short, if your frame is knackered be wary that the Citric doesn't make it end up looking like its had its shiny stripped when it reacts with the NiO, removing the oxide would give the effect of removing the shininess........

I found out the hard way with a nickel plate BB and some random brake bits that lost their shine......... You can see what it did to the locking rings.

(Forgot to mention, don't use acetic acid (vineger) on nickel, or nickel alloys, it will dissolve them........)

Try a citric bath, followed by a bath full of bicarbonate of soda to neutralise the acid - remove and rinse.  Should hopefully work as the citric should remove the water spots.......

And while its in the citric bath, give it scrub with a toothbrush, might help to shift the marks  :daumenhoch:

In theory if the citric acid caused they dry spots it should also remove em  :chin:

would deffo give it a scrub while submerged  :daumenhoch:

I've had my citric bath sitting for a month or so now, still working fine  :daumenhoch:

Wouldn't do any harm to stir it up though.

If the "water" marks are Nickel Oxide they will be hard - much like Nickel  ;D and you might struggle to polish them out, much as you'd struggle to polish the Nickel off the frame by hand........  Try rubbing the affected areas with white vinegar to dissolve the oxide and then rinse it well if it works.  Got to be worth a shot?  I see similar with brush nickel plated taps sometimes.....

It does leave very light marks but appears the best thing to polish the marks with and then going over with clothgets most of the scratches out  :)

In the pic of the bb and the cigarette box their doesn't appear to be much nickel left, more bare metal.
I know it's not cheap but maybe the only way around it is to have it re- nickel'd.
