Tuf Neck stem that you don't see everyday...
« on: January 14, 2015, 11:55 AM »
I recently landed this stem as part of a complete.  I thought i'd share it as its pretty unusual.

Having only seen one other in the US, i'm wondering if someone on here has one and if they have any info on it...?

Hey Chris, is it a mini stem? 1" threaded clamp on?

If so, I've seen the ESP ones which are very similar, may have been made by the same company.

Hey Steve, yes its a mini stem, well I have it on a midi/expert JMC.

Its an odd clamp, you have to experiment with washers to get it on right - if you just thread it all the way to the top cup there is no guarantee that it will align with the forks.  Once you've got the washers right so the stem is facing forward you then use the allen bolt to hold it in place.

Thankfully mine came with a plastic cup which fits inside the forks otherwise they could slowly fill up with crud if you left a hole in the top...

Thats really useful Steve, thanks mate.  That at least dates it '84.

I might look out for the ESP version as i've got 3 midi JMCs on the go...

There was an ESP one on a mini (possibly JMC) at MK14 just outside the gate to the helipad. Don't remember who owned it but maybe worth a shout-out.

looks nice!  also looks like it could do with going a bit lower on the fork, there's not much in there to clamp to

Nice that Chris, would be tempted to souce a nut shapped cap for an old school flavour  :)
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.
