Sad News about CycleSport / BMX City
« on: January 13, 2015, 08:01 PM »
Hi all, been a while since I posted, but it's good to be back perusing everyone's builds. Wish I still had my old collection of S&M's!
I spoke to Dan Brooks today, who works at BMX City in Grantham, which used to be called Cyclesport UK. Remember them> They have been a mail order BMX place since waaay back when I believe about 30 years ago.
Anyway, Dan asked me to post up on Rad the sad news that they will be closing their doors for good this February. It seems the sagging BMX market has done for them, with such fierce competition online and also RRP's being ignored by many.
Dan is such a top bloke, and he asked me to say thanks to all on Rad who have bought the many Mid School gems they had lurking until even recently in their warehouse. Lenny Lentini got a special mention, so if you're reading this Lenny, give Dan a call if you can as he'd like to say bye personally.
Dan also said they still have some bizarre mid school stuff left form Fishbone, and other such brands - may be worth a shot if you need any 48 spoke stuff or Standard Shorty inspired cheap frames !
I think the direct number is 01476590550

I'd like to finish by saying Dan is one of the kindest guys I've ever had the pleasure of doing business with in BMX. I no longer run a BMX shop, but Dan has helped me as a customer and also as a distributor when I owned a shop. Top guy. I hope he gets all he truly deserves out of life.
Cheers !
Steve

Sad news indeed, they did me a lovely set of wheels a while back for a great price and I know from Lenny and the crew that they are highly thought of in the area.

Wishing Dan all the very best for the future, whatever he decides to do next  :daumenhoch:

Gutted - used to spend hours looking at their mail order stuff planning builds back in the 90's most of which never happened due to lack of funds. Always good for advice over the phone, never felt like you were putting them out as well.

I've had quit a few bits of them since I could afford stuff, even got some stuff through this week.

It's a sad day when one of the few remaining ol' boy stores has to close its doors  :'(

Used to love their 'Standard Copy' frame listing (which I think got them a telling off back then? Memory might be off on that).

Goodbye Cycle Sport UK - you'll be missed.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. Really means a lot after nearly 11 years of running this place. Hopefully i'm going to be staying in the scene after I leave here if some stuff works out. we will be officially closing the shop at the end of this week but i'm sticking around for another couple of months to clear out all the old stock. Its mostly new school stuff and the odd weird old mid and old school bits but nothing to get really excited about. But if any of the guys that have ben down here before want to come down and have a dig around the few bits and bobs we have left over the coming months you're welcome to come down, just let me know beforehand.

Thanks for all your support over the years!

Dan

Sounds like a real shame, for what seems a real cool shop and a real cool guy ( Dan )
By the way Dan no matter how wierd I'm sure all of that old/mid stuff would sell on here in a flash.
All the best for the future fella  :daumenhoch: :4_17_5:

Bad times.

The reality of it is though, that the all bargains that people have had and shouted about on here (me included), BMX city will have made no money from because they were clearing it out, turning it back into money, turnover with little or no profit and in some cases a loss.

Good luck for the future Dan and crew  :daumenhoch:

In agreement with all, I've had three or four sets of wheels over the last few years from them, due to being a big fan of Supra Es and the like.

the wheels on my barcode came from them a little while ago...

Bought a good few things over the years, always good prices and a good service...a real shame.
