Help needed on new school headset part!
« on: January 16, 2015, 10:47 AM »
Hi lads, I've just bought a second hand colony descendent and I'm trying to tart it up.
What is the bolt on top of the stem called ?
Mine is rusty and horrible .. I've bought a new stem but can't find out about this top part? Stems and headsets seem to come without them ?
Are they available ? Are they specific to bikes or forks or headsets ?
Is this what I need ?

I saw this image and the part looks different again ?

Can anybody help ?

It's a 2011 colony bike.

Cheers boys !!
Regards Ant

They are matched to the forks mate, not the stem.

There are a couple of fairly standard sizes though these days - speak to Stodgy at the Rad Shop, he usually keeps a couple. Top cap or fork bolt or stem cap, any of those names will get you there.

thats a compression cap . is your fork threaded internally ?

can you not just sand yours down and touch it up with nail varnish or enamel paint ?

Compression cap you showed above screws into forks.

Best way to find out which one you need is to unscrew it, should be able to pick up another one for a few quid.
