What do I look for?
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:59 PM »
Hey guys just wondering what I should look for when buying a bike.

Do I buy a pre made bike or look to cobble together one?

Thanks

Is it old/mid/new school you're after?

Race/freestyle?

What's your budget?

What Bobbbbs said, esp if you're talking about new school
This time of year ebay should be full of hardly touched 2nd hand completes, look for full cromo / sealed bearings and you can't go far wrong. Pick a TT length that goes with your height and upgrade when you can afford to. If you want a new bike speak to the Rad shop ;)

I picked up a 2nd hand bike for just over a ton that was originally at least 400, only a few years old and just a couple of scratches / bit of brake rub on the wheels

or if you want new you could always call the radbmx SHOP.   :police: :daumenhoch:

you want as new as possible ideally but anywhere after 2010 should be fine. higher end united , fit or sunday bikes would be good bets. some of the more specialist firms do frame only hence so many CUSTOM bikes on ebay(most of which are crap).

A WeThePeople Zodiac would be a good start as a complete 2nd hand bike.

How tall are you? You will find all new school frames come with different top tube lengths.

Any skate parks/ramps local to you? Go and hang about at them, chat to the locals and badger them for a ride on their bikes, see if you find a bike that feels comfortable to you.

I did this, found a bike i really liked, and bought something completely different  ;D

Hey, I'm 6ft so not too sure what size frame I'd  get so any help on that would be good too - TBH I really don't know what's near me I'm in wallasey so I think ramp works in liverpool is the closest unless there are some outdoor places I don't know about (which is highly likely lol?

Get yourself along to one of the RAD lockins up your way and have a ride on a few  :daumenhoch:

look for anything with a 20.75 or 21" top tube and you should be fine  :daumenhoch:

dont be worried about working on your biker either. its like lego these days. you only need 2 medium allen keys and a 15mm spanner to build a bike.

The WTP Zodiac is a great bike, I got one for 65 quid, bit rough as someone rattle canned it black, upgraded a few bits and it rides really well. I have had a few bikes off a guy I know in Leyland, £130 has been dearest one .

Been lockins at Beast Rampz in Manchester , Blackpool, and I am hopefully going to sort a few out this year at the Warehouse in Leyland
