1985 Hutch Pro Racer ***FINISHED***
« on: January 04, 2015, 09:00 PM »
Back in March last year, Andy (DTTDB) rolled up to the Chester ride on his '85 Hutch, it was a bike he'd spent 4 years meticulously collecting the correct parts, and having some amazing resto work on certain parts, to add to the details which were reflected in the completed build, a build that throughout the day at Chester, I continued to drool over.

I mentioned to Andy that it would be one of my dream builds, luckily for me, Andy remembered this conversation, and had decided that he was going to sell the Hutch to fund, and make room for his grail, a VDC Changa.

So, I got a message off Andy late May, offering me the Hutch, and the deal was struck - thanks so much again Andy.  :4_17_5:

It arrived, and I removed it from the box and packaging, and just stared at it, it really is gorgeous.

I had toyed with the idea of mounting it in a glass case, and fixing it to the wall in the man cave, but that's not what they're made for, so I've decided to get it built.

Obviously, with the baby coming along, I didn't really have a lot of time to even think about what parts to start collecting for it. As most of you know, as with most of my builds, there will be a mix of OG and NRP's, to keep to my budget.

The first part I got, is one of Clint's jam buttie seat clamps

Andy had thrown in the Tange headset with the deal, which is chrome, so I've decided to go with all chrome, or polished parts.

Then I had a bit of a minor set-back, as Steve announced that there weren't going to be any more Hutch pads made, so after a chat with Andy, I decided that I'd get a blank chrome look set from Aussie eBay, and will get Del to make some cut vinyl decals for them

This weekend though has been very productive with my part search. I've got a Suntour Powerstem from Dazza, and today have scored a chrome 44t Sugino and repop Aerospeed power disc

The rest of the parts I would like to find for this are:

nice chrome race bars (Hsin Lung - if poss)
Bubble font A'me Tri's
DC Tech 3
DC MX1000
nice chrome seat post (poss Nitto layback)
Kashi Aero
Comp III's
Polished 7x type rims
Asahi spokes
Polished Suzue hubs
Tange BB
Tange headlock
Sugino 1 piece crank
Izumi chain
Shimano SX pedals

I'd just leave them pads Chrome Dan, or at least save them blank until the build is done....i think it'l look cracking

That thought had crossed my mind, good advice, at least then I can see if it's worth the effort of getting decals off Del, or not??

Nice one Dan  :daumenhoch: Am pleased to see that it'll be built up. Will be nice to see it out again on one of the rides. The Tange headset nut that I included with the sale was a Hutch stamped one (in case you weren't aware). Worth a few quid on it's own - it might help to fund some of the other parts!

Sounds like it's going to come out great  :4_17_5:

I hadn't looked that closely to the headset tbh Andy, but it will be staying where it is, it looks great with the frame and forks.  :daumenhoch:

I remember the convo we had at Radleigh Andy (shortly before Shady spat ale on Joff). You were telling me that you'd taken a repop Aerospeed power disc and sent it for rechroming before you'd even fitted it, I thought you were mad, but now I've seen one myself, I know where you're coming from, Hutch have scrimped a little there.

I'm going to send mine to be polished, just to get a slightly nicer finish to it.

Bling eroo a chrome Hutch,  that's a nice frame set.. I really wanted this when I saw it at Chester it's mint.

So Starsky when you rolling it out, get a roof rack on the Torino... :4_17_5:

The powerdisc is at the chromers as we speak. It had been stripped and polished at Chester. I tried to get it chromed over the summer, but it didn't take. I've sent it to Hockleys now, so hopefully it can be chrome plated ok. Funnily, the 'cheap' porkchop alloy powerdisc for a 1 piece crank has come out perfect!

Hi fella, lovely Hutch that, gonna be sweet!

I've got a black kashi aero (repop from natsukashi) you can have for £35 if you're interested? Pretty much mint condition and has been on my 82 Ripper until this week when a lovely NOS Black MX turned up at my door....    :smitten:

Cheers,

Neil
