brake blocks and cables

Please help out a dimwit.

1. Whats the difference between slick and linear brake cables?

2. What is a decent kind of brake cable for an 80's freestyle bike, hollow stem but no rotor. doesn't need to be age specific, just work properly and not cost the earth.

3. Best blocks for new Tuff wheels being run with caliper brakes. Are the long bullet shaped skyway blocks any good?

Answer to No.2 - Everyone I can remember used Clarks Powerglide cables, a rear through the Potts bolt.

Odyssey slic cables are your best bet. Cheap enough on the bay too 

The new skyway pads are awful. I personally wouldn't waste money on them.

go with a slick cable for the front potts and the rear brake, linear cables are good if you plan on doing lots of barspins but can be a pain when cutting the outer to the correct length.

How's about brake blocks, I have the long new Skyway ones but they do look well dodgy. I have red wheels so want something that wont mark them too bad.

Any recommendations?

Clear sticky pads are your best bet if you want to actually stop

Available even from Halfrauds I am told, but your lbs will have some - they even come with a coloured insert if you are fussy to match your build

However, if you don't set them up to toe in correctly they will squeal like a pig and are annoying

You will come to a stop remarkably quicker than you did in 1984 though, despite no doubt being 5st heavier so learn to love the squeal, it probably saved your life

Oh, x2 on the Odyssey Slick cables, my weapon of choice on anything I actually ride in any type of anger

Mark, here you go mate

Odyssey Slick cables, sticky pads, oldschool brackets and a personal modification to make sure the bike stops dead even with oldschool caliper brakes as the levers at the other end have the adjustment so no need for it at the caliper
