1985 Bandito Pro Spec?
« on: October 23, 2014, 10:15 PM »

Hi, first post on the forum but been lurking a while.  I wanted to ask if anyone had any original spec info on the 85 Bandito Pro past the frame set onwards.  With it being a CW made frame did it come with a CW stem?

Anyway with any knowledge on a parts list your input would be appreciated!

Jonny

Hey Jonny,

As far as I am aware, Bandito were just frame, fork and bar sets, they weren't sold as a complete. Bandito was owned by Dave and Cathy Hinshaw and was started out of their bike shop (Dave's Bike Shop) in Corona California. They were basically a CW frame, fork and bars with different dropouts, dual position dropouts like the Diamond Back Viper I think it was, and were made at the same place as CW. Bandito handle bars were CW bars with a square tube as an extra brace below the top crossbar.

Thanks for the info Guys.  It's much appreciated!  Ok that makes sense now on it coming with the frame, forks and bars.  I have the frame with the double drop outs but not the bars or forks and the chances of getting hold of either anytime soon as i'm sure your aware will be near enough impossible and even less likely in the original finish.  I'm using some NOS CW Pro bars as i guess the next best thing and just some 1" threaded chrome forks for now so i can build her up.  Yeah, it's basically a ZX frame with the modifications.

That mini looks sweet Custard Lips!

Cheers lads,

Jonny

Never seen drop outs like that before.   What the purpose of them then.   ???
Really nice frame tho... gonna be a bugger tryna find matching forks I'll bet.  ::)

It changes the geometry of the frame depending on which drops out you use.  The company was only on the go a few years and i believe they only did the double drop outs towards the end.  Chances of getting any forks are near on impossible.  Spoke to a friend in California where they were made.  He's been on the scene trading etc and he said he hasn't seen any for over 10 years.  I guess you could charge what you wanted if you had a pair to sell!

You could use some Diamond Back dual dropout forksas a decent alternative?

Yeah, thought about that  bodamus.  You don't see them very often and the few times i have they've been around the £250 mark.  I was thinking it's a bit steep to know in the back of your mind they are the wrong forks.

Love Bandito's probably my favourite old school frameset (you all know I like the weird stuff).

Forks are like hens teeth and the bars are pretty damn rare too.

You will eventually find the parts you need for it, it just may mean a wait to get it right.

Send it over to me Jonny, I will look after it mate  ;)

Yeah Stidds, just going to build it up and wait on the bars and forks and replace them if they come off, just going this way:

Black chrome and gold:

I suggest using a tange trx, tange tx1200, tange cycle pro, or just a gt or powerlite fork. All are common fork options that are era correct and what you would buy if you walked into the bike shop. Cool frame

Cheers for the info.  I'll look to do that!

Any thoughts on wheels?

I was thinking either Ukai or Araya rims with Suzue hubs.  Colour wise black araya rims and polished Suzue hubs would look sweeet or maybe bring some gold into it with gold Araya rims and polished hubs and some gold in the crank set up?

I would keep it simple just chrome and black parts personally if it was me

Terry has some lovely Arayas on Bullseye hubs in the for sale section.

Nice find Nick!  They would be better than what i've got on at present but at possibly $250 for the forks and $100 to get them here to much in my opinion.  If they were the real deal then yeah.  Thanks for letting me know though.
