One thing that isn't fun is spending £130 on fooking grips  :LolLolLolLol:

I don't think I've spent that much on ALL my grips in 6 years.  :LolLolLolLol:

There has been no price crash; total fallacy and an urban myth spread by those who are in it for the money not the "fun" as described

Spot on Marty  ;)

ESP stems, remade in the UK and in OZ but, the originals still sell for 700+ dollars. JMC seat posts, remade but the originals still sell for over 200+ dollars, Oakley B-1B's, re-issued and given for FREE with a purchase of glasses over £50 but, the re-pops even fetch 150+ dollars.

I have seen no dent at all in the prices of hard to come by items, in fact, I have seen them rise over the past year or so.

These Unitrons will be selling for $30 a set which is great if you want to actually ride them and not put them on a shelf  :daumenhoch:

I'm just upset they're not doing any red/yellow ones  :2funny:
I love these and all other cheap affordable re-pops .... Not for show builds but for those bikes that we want to ride and enjoy...

I love my show ponies with their crazy NOS parts but I also love my riders ( with their repop bits and bobs ) that give you thrills in their own way!  :smitten:

Rare original grips will always retain their value irrespective of repops. :daumenhoch:

Just what we need... More parts that cross the line between real and fake.

Just like tuf necks, esp stems, SE racing anything, bullseye, unless it has known provenance you may as well assume they are all fake.

Exactly  ;)

All these companys did'nt give a fu ck about old school bmx when the scene went tits up Years ago. They all got out real quick and jumped on the next money making band wagon.

Now they can sell a few old school bmx parts again and add more $ dollars to the bottom line they are all at it. Every single company that did'nt care now see $ dollar signs yet again.

Haro, Profile, Tioga, Tange, A'me, Oakley, Hutch, Skyway the list goes on.

Its not like there is'nt enough old school stuff still out there anyways. Its just that some people would rather spend £20 on a sh it repo Dia Compe Seat Clamp instead of Hunting out and spending £50 on a real NOS One.

Sorry but im a purist, if it aint old school then its not an old school Part or build.

Pads and stickers are fair enough but as for the rest its just a load of

Jap Crap ;)

When i got into old school bmx there was'nt all this Jap Crap stuff around. If you wanted a part you hunted it out and you paid for it which was the Exciting part of the scene and made it all the more exciting and part of the Hunt.

Now its just go on Porkchop and order the crap look alike parts and fool yourself into buying Jap Crap which kinda looks like the real thing but is'nt the real thing. Because people can't be arsed to Hunt Out the real thing and pay a few Quid more.

Like i said it has hurt the scene whichever way you look at it and i know for a fact its the reason why "alot" of people have Sold Out and Moved onto collecting other things.

Is this right or wrong i dont care its how i feel about the repo Jap Crap and what it has done to the Old School BMX Scene.

If more people got into collecting and these new parts didn't exist, there'd be no parts left for you.

I have no interest in waiting forever for a part, and paying top dollar for it when it arrives.

Stuff like this suits my riders just fine.  :daumenhoch:

Surely getting out of something when there's no market to sell to is good business isn't it?  and tapping back into a market and trading on your previous good name is good business isn't it? (as long as the new parts are of good standard and quality)

Tell us exactly what these parts are doing to the Old School Scene then?  as already stated, they don't seem to be having any effect on original parts prices and in some cases the new parts are commanding high prices on their own? (Oakley grips and new Vector bars for example).  Yes you might get the odd w@nker who buys a reproduction part and does all he can to try and make it look original so he can make a quick buck or ten, but hopefully those people get found out very quickly by keen eyed people on forums like ours.

What's your take on what these parts are doing to our hobby?

The only way i see it is, they allow people who ride their old bikes to have look-a-like parts that they don't mind trashing or getting scratched up while cruising about on their bike for a fraction of the cost.  I have a new reproduction MX1000 on my 2015 loopy Ripper as i didn't want to waste £80 on an old one when all the other parts on the bike are brand new, so it fits in with my build.

I completely understand however that they might not be what you want on your bikes, for either riding or for display purposes but i don't see them having any detrimental effect on value of the original parts.

I can see the arguement for both sides but personally it comes down to a perishable thing, grips, tyres and brake pads are, by there very nature, designed to be expendable and generally do not keep well over time. It's all about the riding for me and I ain't spending 200 notes on some tyres I will trash on one Rad ride because the rubber is 30 years old
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

True. I've said this before. You have to balance out the old with the new depending how long you want to wait for the exact part and how much you want to spend on it.

I'm happy to mix old parts with new for my riders. I'll rather not trust 30 year old drive/ stem parts no matter how well they're made. But that's jus me.

If you want to ride your bike, I'd say these parts are essential.

I have repop uni hand grenades and tioga comp 3, both new and can be used for riding. As said before you couldn't use 30 year old tyres and grips as they would perish and ruin, and who would want to ruin expensive og stuff?

There is place for both, OG stuff for show bikes that are exact period correct. Repops for stuff you want to ride but still have the old school look. I see no problems with it myself.

Nearly 4 years ago, I bought a set of NOS, still in the box A'me Dual's for around £60, and fitted them to my Goose.

While hammered in Blackpool, I ploughed into a lad on a stag do who was just as hammered, subsequently I fell off t'goose and tore the end of one if my grips. I was a bit gutted, to say the least, especially as someone had looked after them properly for nearly 30 years.

This is why I choose to add repop parts to my bikes, the purists may not like repop parts, or my bikes, but I give zero fooks about what anyone else thinks, and ride/enjoy/socialise with them - for me, what this hobby's all about.

A lot of the people who have moved on are scensters who move from scene to scene, should it be VW, OSBMX, Starwars Toys, Corgi Toys, Shoes, Handbags, Hat Pins or whatever, while they are in that scene they have to be the best, they get a kick out of displaying their rare, large and most importantly valuable collections and everybody oohing and aahing and saying "you da best".

I've come across a fair few of these types in this hobby, in my opinion they are mostly ego driven people who never had any real love for BMX in the first place, they are money driven and as soon as it looks like their investment is under threat they are off.

Good luck to them the scene is better off with out them.   :daumenhoch:

This is very true Rod, we see the 'players' come, buy everything, build everything, sell everything and disappear. The true enthusiasts and collectors will be here for years to come, and won't regard the hobby as something to relieve boredom and pass time.

There's one I won't name that had an impressive collection of bikes a few years ago, and attended the rides on them to be fair to him, but on the rides, felt the need to tell as many people as he could on how much he'd spent, and spent a lot of time trying to prize bikes and bits off people, it really put me off having anything to do with him, shame really.

Hmmmm i wonder who that was Dan  ???   ;D

it's true though, you also find that a lot of people like that (not all i have to add) buy their stuff at way above the going rate from the states, plus postage and taxes and then want to know why no one buys their 'pride and joy' for exactly what they paid for it (adding on the post and taxes)

I think its acceptable using re issued items like grips or tyres from A'me, Oakley, Tioga or whoever it may be, especially as rubber over time perishes.  Plus, they are hardly fakes as it's a product sold by that particular company at various points in time.  Sure, they maybe cashing in on old school, but they are a business after all.  So long as they aren't sold as original 80s items at inflated prices.  I think builds with NOS parts  will always stand out from the crowd anyway and those who want to use original items can carry on and enjoy the hunt :)

Gosh. My fingers about to drop off from scrolling!!!

NRP's fine for me. Jus remembering all my original bikes were frankesteins of parts traded, borrowed or bought. I admit my first was probably the only one rolled off the production line onto street. Soon changed that tho....😉

Good massdebate here. Most of us reading from same sheet of enjoy it, ride it, fek it.

to me they are not repops or even NRPs, they are re-releases as they are made by the same company, in fact some things that people class as repops arent even re-releases as they have never gone out of production, such as some of the other types of ame grips.
the argument that they de-value og items is a myth, look what happened to the price of Gen 1 haro's when the anni frame came out, because it was priced quite high (in fact higher than you could pick up a rough og one for) the price of og ones went through the roof.
for certain parts its essential that they are re-released/ reproduced as without them we could not ride our bikes, tyres are a prime example as 30yr old rubber is just dangerous.
