Bullseye crank question
« on: October 30, 2014, 03:55 PM »
Hi all. I really like the look of bullseye cranks like these

I just have a few questions. Does anyone know if they ever came in chrome as well as colours? I'm thinking of fitting them to my next build which is an '84. Are these cranks era correct for the build? Any tips on what to look out for when buying a set of these? Are there any weak spots/parts that are impossible to get hold of? Hoping someone can help- thanks!

I'm 95% sure I read somewhere that they didn't do them in chrome as it weakened them  :-\

I was tempted to do mine in chrome but never got round to it (Wardy told me NO !)

Mine are chrome ;)

Originally, or did you have them re-chromed? So any idea what gen the cranks in the first photo are? They look a different shape to the chrome ones to me, or is that just the angle/light/bling effect of the chrome?

The chrome ones do look different because of the bling but mainly because they are much longer, so proportionally differences.

You can't tell which version of  2nd gen cranks the black ones are without seeing the other side.

In the breakdown of differences, where it says.....

•2nd gen-V2 22.2mm Spindle - TA Cyclotourist spider plate mounting. Safety Key washer non drive side. 1985-1990+

I think it should say....

•2nd gen-V2 22.2mm Spindle - TA Cyclotourist spider plate mounting. Safety Cap screw and washer non drive side. 1985-1990+

Thanks for all the info. They are something i'm considering. I have my JDB Hutch cranks lined up for the VDC if it can be re-chromed ok. If it can't, then i'll powder it white and probably use bullseye cranks, either black or white.
