Whats the best way to repair a tyre rip?

I've just stuck some thick tape behind the tear at the mo but it shows white through.

Is a puncture repair patch something people have tried before?

I was thinking a flat patch for car tyres or if ur local garage only ha mushroom patches then cut the stalk off they'd be a lot stronger than bike patches also use their glue

They are old and rare as fook and won't be ridden in anger 

just trying to make the best of whats there and hide the tear

I wouldn't have thought so unless it's the service center just any garage should have loads just ask if u can have one , I worked in a garage for years we used to have a constant supply of them

Take it to a local tyre shop who carry out licensed repairs mate, they carry out a Vulcanising procedure for punctures that might be the only real way of doing this.. ?

bit of superglue on the tear and a patch on the back works ok for a while.

Ed it may take a bit of searching but there was a guy at a cycle jumble at Manchester velodrome who was doing just this sort of thing. He had a few repaired sections, one of which looked like someone had knocked a nine inch nail through the sidewall.
If memory serves he was laying on some sort of muslin type fabric and bonding it with a sort of liquid rubber?
I doubt glue alone will be able to prevent the slit opening when the inner tube is inflated

thats quite a bad slash and will need a substantial patch as the tyre will need support to stop it getting worse

you could do what i do to road bike tyres when they get a bad cut in them when out on a ride

Get some gaffer tape, stick it on the inside covering the cut to stop water etc.. getting in, then get some cardboard (cornflake box thickness) cut it to size making sure you have a good inch or so all round overlap then using more gaffer tape stick it to the inside of the tyre coverinng the cut area and over the first layer of gaffer tape

Pump up the tyre and all is good

Ive done this many times with road bike tyres, pumped em back upto 120 psi and carried on riding them for 50 miles +

As you dont want white showing through the trye you could do as above but when you stick the first bit of gaffer tape on use a small patch of inner tube to cover the hole first so no white sticky side of the gaffer tape is showing

Yeah, proper gaffer tape (with the cotton threads through it) really is your friend on this occasion, as it doesn't stretch.

Pretty sure all our patches are the mushroom type at work but will have a look for you.

Apparently stiching the tear together with synthetic dental floss is the done thing 
They guy at the jumble had somehow managed to make the repair almost invivisble
