Red or Blue?
« on: October 23, 2014, 10:15 PM »
Guys. I snagged this frame set a little while back and have been torn between the wheel set that I should use on it. The frame set is original chrome and decals, accept the head tube decal. It was replaced by the previous owner with a NOS one.

I do like Tuff's on a TA but I also like spokes. So, before I embark on getting some parts together, which wheels would you fit to your TA  ???

1 - Blue Araya 7C's laced to HF Sunshine hubs....

2 - 2nd Gen Red Tuff II's....

PS:- I am not into Patriotism so I won't be mixing parts together in red and blue, it's not my thing  :D

Blue z rims  :-X
Sixteen thirty-two. What is that? A year?   No, it's your top score on Pole Position.

The Tuffs were iconic bitd Terry but for me a decent set of spokes always wins and they are a decent set. Would be better as 7X's due to the age of the frame, but who gives a fook when it comes to a year or so, they will look mint bud :coolsmiley:

Thanks guys. I guess it be spokes then  ;D

Spen, you right buddy. It's only a year out mate, or just about. The frame and fork is June 1983 and the hubs are dated '82. Era correct doesn't really bother me that much when building a survivor. We always updated parts or put on what looked best back in the day.

I was talking to a guy at work today who rode BMX through the 90's and he had a 7X on the front and a Tuff on rear of his bashguard   :D

There was a TA with white z rims in bike of the month or summing.
Rest of bikes blue I think.
They look surprisingly good on a TA so something worth considering to have best of both worlds? Oh how I wish I hadn't traded my blue coaster Z rims off my ripper BITD. But hey we all had Frankenstein bikes didn't we?

The parts colour choice will come down to what wheels I put on it bro. I don't want a mix of red and blue so, blue wheels equals blue, black and silver and red the same but with red  :daumenhoch:

I see your point Chris but couldn't bring myself to spend £800+ on some Skyways, regardless of what hubs are fitted to them, just to ride on.

It may look good built but there are too many that look the same. I just wanted to try something different but realised building a TA does actually start with what wheelset you choose.

I'm saving the big bucks for the other 'rather special' race frame set I have on the go  :daumenhoch:

If I had the choice of your wheels it would be the spokes.  If I were to build a chrome TA with spokes ideally i'd go all chrome/silver with black seat and grips.
