Dia Compe Brake Spindle Lengths
« on: October 20, 2014, 07:18 PM »
Ok I am done searching and it looks like this has not been raised.

So MX900/1000 Rear Brake spindle lengths are 35mm from either the self centre mechanism or the spring holder.

This length can easily be absorbed if your frame has a tubular brake bridge such as JMC or GT as you get the shaped washers to fill out the extra spindle length.

But was there a specific spindle for a flat brake bridge? Such as GHP, SE or Hutch. I remember we used to pack em with whatever we had in the garage.

Some years ago I was building with a flat brake bridge and I some how ended up with a spindle that had only 20mm from the back of the spring holder to the end of the spindle. It leaves about 5mm of thread sticking out. See pic

Looks a lot neater than shall we say a packed with washer, back to back tube shape spacers (remember that trick) or Skyway pad (the coolest option) No punn intended.

Whats your views out there? Do you know something else I don't? Plenty of that!

Has anybody cut more thread with a die and trimmed the remainder?

No stopping on this thread until we have an answer  :LolLolLolLol:

Lets see your handy work. Thumbs up for the best solution.

Yep short ones are out there. try looking at smaller sized brake calipers ie road bikes etc.

They are out there as I have them on a number of my bikes.

I've run a die down the spindle in the past... die is a tad tight as I think the original thread is rolled, not cut, from the factory.
