Built my wheel but not all of the spokes sit correct??
« on: October 12, 2014, 02:49 PM »
Hi there

I have just swapped the hub over from my old wheel to my new (to me) wheel and I have a slight problem. All around the wheel the spokes are sat like this.

What have I done wrong and how can I rectify it?

Thanks for your help dudes.

Rob

Alright Rob,

I've built quite a few wheel sets then I take to my lbs to get them trued. All the wheels I've built tend to look the same as yours so you've nowt to worry about mate. I put it down to the rim being slightly out of shape.  :daumenhoch:

tighten each nipple until they all have the spoke about 2-3 mm below the slot then start the truing process
they will all come into line

Take care spokes don't poke through or punctures will ensue!

If they do I spose you either file or grind them down. Or get a shop to look at it.

Just been looking at rims and specifically double lined rims for strength. Most look like the additional lining will sit over the spoke holes so harder to tighten but less likely to poke thru and cause punctures.

Might help some poor soul?

As long as you've got the correct size spokes there should be no need for filing or grinding  "nono". Only an :nickswan: would use spokes that are too big.  ::)
