Back in the game...Kuwie style
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:46 PM »
My first post here!
So the story goes...I was walking past my local junk shop about a month ago and my nippers ask if we can go in and take a look fot any toys! So down the alley we head when I spot a bmx part way down...its chrome so I wander over out of old school curiosity.
I notice its got kuwahara decals so my eyes widen...could it be genuine?
Its loaded with mainly OG parts but missing a few bits.
I have a good look over it...no kuwie stamps on frame...but it looks too good to not take a chance.
So I go chat with the french owner...Patrique...how much?
I always prepare to haggle...he says 10 quid as its old and needs some bits doing!
So I casually say ok...inside I am doing cartwheels!
Pay the cash...my boys are thinking...WTF?
I get home plug in the frame no. as there is no model decal...bingo a Tange built Laserlite from 83 :D
Now in the process of cleaning and rebuilding...needs a few bits but generally really good nick!
Not rebuilt an old school bmx since the early 90's do am proper stoked on my find :daumenhoch:

Brilliant story, it's great to know that they're still out there.

Laserlite's are lovely framesets too, will look forward to seeing how this progresses.

:welcome to  :radbmxsmilie: too by the way, you're in the right place to get any info you need reharding your Kuwie build. :daumenhoch:

Yeh guys I was so stunned with a tenner that I forgot my manners and didnt haggle!
The chromes in great condition...a day of autosol and it looks really nice but I am happy with a usable survivor.
Pedals missing, modern grips were disappointing...but bonus's are the se bars with decal intact, OG kashimax aero and dia compe caliper all still very nice.
Plans are a budget race makeover...already added a 80's NOS plate I had in the shed from a previous re issue quad which I never used, some generic beartraps and a pair of 1.75 comp 3's.
A few more pics if you're still interested ;)
Only issue is I now have a real craving to build more...lots of flea bay watching going on!
Its gonna end in divorce for sure!

That's a fantastic pick-up!!  "wantit"

Looks in similar condition to the one I've just finished:- http://www.radbmx.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,177326.0.html - which has cost me more than the £500 Mark mentioned above and a damn sight more than a tenner!!  ;D

Look forward to seeing how it turns out.  :daumenhoch:
